The Georgia State Panthers and the Marshall Thundering Herd meet Saturday in college football action from Joan C. Edwards Stadium. Georgia State played James Madison in their last game. The Panthers would go on to lose by two points. As for the Herd, they’re coming off a game versus Georgia Southern. In that one Marshall bagged a 13-point win. Georgia State got off to a rough 0-4 start this year with losses to South Carolina, North Carolina, Charlotte and Coastal Carolina. The Panthers went 4-2 over their next six games with wins over Army, GA Southern, Old Dominion and Southern Miss.

Back on Saturday versus James Madison, the Panthers were up 34-14 by halftime. Georgia State hit a 28-6 deficit from there and lost 42-40 in a rough outcome. Darren Grainger managed 176 yards and a score, while Marcus Carroll had 41 yards and a TD.

Over on the Marshall side, they won their first pair of outings this year before losses to Bowling Green and Troy. Marshall hit a 4-2 run themselves in the next six, with wins over Gardner-Webb, James Madison, Old Dominion and App State.

Matched up against Georgia Southern last weekend, Marshall had a 20-10 lead by halftime. The Herd offense cooled off in the second half but it was still a 23-10 win. QB Cam Fancher posted 274 yards with two touchdowns, and Rasheen Ali had 79 rush yards.

The Panthers are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 in November and 9-3 ATS versus a team with a winning record. Georgia State is 5-2 ATS in their last seven overall.

Meanwhile the Herd are 4-1 ATS in the last five overall and 9-27 ATS in their last 36 at home. Marshall is 1-4 ATS versus a team with a losing record.

PICK: I’ll probably stick with Marshall here. The Herd are coming off a pretty complete game versus Georgia Southern, notching 529 yards, 29 first downs and a 10-of-19 run on third-down tries. Marshall held the Eagles to 384 yards on the other side and just 2-of-11 third-down conversions.

As for Georgia State, they had just 257 total yards of offense, nine first downs and 3-of-13 on third-down tries during a weird game against James Madison last weekend. This might end up a fairly close matchup but I still think Marshall will cover in the end.
