The Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Maryland Terrapins meet Saturday in college football action from Byrd Stadium. Here’s a Maryland vs Nebraska prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Maryland vs Nebraska pick.
Nebraska Cornhuskers Betting Preview
Nebraska opened up the year on a nice run, then took a tough loss for their first blemish of the season. The Cornhuskers eked past Cincinnati 20-17 on the road in their opener, then blew out Akron 68-0 in game two. Nebraska kept it up the next week with a 59-7 blowout win over Houston Christian. Game four however, was Nebraska’s first loss: a 30-27 home result versus Michigan. In that one the Cornhuskers posted just 43 rushing yards and a 2-of-13 effort on third-down tries. Nebraska’s defense held the Wolverines to just 105 passing yards and 4-of-12 on third downs in the defeat, however.
Last weekend versus Michigan State, Nebraska jumped out to a 14-7 lead by halftime but entered the fourth quarter all knotted up at 21-21. Following a 17-6 run from there however, the Cornhuskers walked away with a nice home win 38-27. QB Dylan Raiola finished 16-of-24 for 194 yards, one TD and one pick. Leading the rush was Emmett Johnson with 13 totes for 83 yards and three touchdowns. Topping the receivers in the winning effort was Nyziah Hunter, bagging four catches for 93 yards and a TD along the way to the victory.
Maryland Terrapins Betting Preview
Over on the Maryland side, they were able to get through their first four games undefeated without too much difficulty. The Terrapins crushed Florida Atlantic 39-7 in their opener then powered out a 20-9 win versus Northern Illinois. Game three was another blowout win 44-17 versus Towson, then came a 27-10 win over Wisconsin. In the Badgers matchup, Maryland managed just 13 first downs and 4-of-14 on third-down tries alongside 61 rushing yards but also held Wisconsin to 3-of-17 on their own third-down conversion attempts.
Matched up against Washington on Saturday the Terrapins were looking good heading into the fourth quarter. Maryland was up 20-3, but after a disastrous final frame spurred by a 21-0 deficit, the Terrapins had a crushing defeat 24-20. QB Malik Washington was 30-of-49 for 219 yards, one TD and one interception, and DeJuan Williams carried 12 times for 26 yards. Dorian Fleming caught nine balls for a team-high 57 yards, shared with Octavian Smith and his three catches during the loss.

Maryland vs Nebraska Prediction
I’ll probably take a stab on Maryland in this one, but you could make a case either way. It’s going to be a pretty good matchup if both teams play to their capabilities. That said, the Terrapins really need to put the Washington loss in the rearview mirror with a solid performance this weekend. Maryland gained 274 yards total in the defeat with just 55 rushing yards and 4.0 yards per play alongside 19 first downs and 9-of-17 on third-down tries. The Terrapins defense allowed 390 yards with 5.1 yards per play and 28 first downs but did pretty well on thirds with a 5-of-12 success rate. The 20 points was tied for Maryland’s lowest of the season so far (Northern Illinois).
As for Nebraska, they got a big lift from their defense in the win over Michigan State. The Cornhuskers gave up just 240 yards, 3.5 yards per play, 17 first downs and 2-of-14 on third-down tries along with three takeaways. Nebraska has given up 57 points combined over the last two outings though, so there could be some opportunities for Maryland to find the scoreboard in this one. Regardless, it’ll be a great matchup to watch.
