The Jacksonville State Gamecocks and the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders meet Wednesday in college football action from Floyd Stadium. Here’s a Middle Tennessee vs Jacksonville State prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Middle Tennessee vs Jacksonville State pick.

Jacksonville State Gamecocks Betting Preview

Jacksonville State opened up the season on a rough 1-2 clip, beating Liberty by 10 points in between losses to UCF and Georgia Southern—each by a touchdown. The Gamecocks would even up their record through four games with a blowout win over Murray State, then fell to Southern Miss in the next outing. Jacksonville State got back in the win column with a dramatic win over Sam Houston on October 9, though. In that one the Gamecocks were outscored 13-12 in the second half (and posted all of their points in the fourth quarter) on the way to a 29-27 victory. The offense accounted for 499 total yards in that one, with 370 of those coming on the ground. Jacksonville State managed 26 first downs but didn’t do very well on third-down conversions with a 4-of-15 success rate in the victory on the road.

In their most recent outing versus Delaware back on October 15, the Gamecocks gave up 13 points to their three scored in the fourth quarter. That said, Jacksonville State also notched points in every other quarter (including 14 in both the second and third) on the way to a 38-25 win in the end. QB Caden Creel finished 14-of-21 for 116 yards and a score, but Cam Cook did most of the work on the ground with 18 carries for 117 yards and three touchdowns. Brock Rechsteiner was the team’s leading receiver with three catches for 48 yards and the TD.

Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders Betting Preview

Over on the Middle Tennessee side, they kicked off the season with a couple of losses versus Austin Peay and Wisconsin. The Blue Raiders finally got into the win column with a road victory over Nevada (by one point), then hit a rough losing stretch. Middle Tennessee took defeats in the next three games versus Marshall, Kennesaw State and Missouri State. In the loss to the Bears on October 8, the Blue Raiders gave up 16 points in the second quarter on the way to a 22-20 defeat in the end. Middle Tennessee ended up with 353 total yards in that one with 86 rush yards, 22 first downs and 5.2 yards per play. The Blue Raiders’ defense gave up just 19 first downs and held Missouri State to just 4-of-15 on third-down conversions but didn’t generate any takeaways in the home defeat.

Matched up against Delaware back on October 22 in their most recent appearance, Middle Tennessee fell back into the loss column again. The Raiders were up 14-7 by the end of the first quarter then gave up 17 unanswered points in the next frame during an eventual loss 31-28 on the road. QB Nicholas Vattiato finished 31-of-48 for 281 yards, three scores and a pick. Tops in rushing was Jekail Middlebrook with 11 totes for 68 yards and a TD, while leading receiver Hunter Tipton caught five balls for 56 yards and a score. Middlebrook added five catches of his own for 53 yards during the loss.

Matchup/League Facts

  • Jacksonville State ranks 130th among FBS teams for passing yards per game this season (140.6).

Middle Tennessee vs Jacksonville State Prediction

I’ll stay with Jacksonville State. Probably not touching this one, though; there’s not a lot to get excited about here. In any case, the Gamecocks gave up a ton of production through the air (422 yards) in their latest win over Delaware. That said, the defense posted 4-of-14 allowed on third-down conversions and had a couple of takeaways. The Hens’ 10 penalties didn’t hurt either. Jacksonville State has 25 or more points in six straight games so they should be able to handle the Raiders here.
