Mississippi State vs Vanderbilt Prediction
I’ll take a stab on Vanderbilt. The Commodores initially looked pretty good in their last matchup versus Kentucky but let things slip away after halftime. Vanderbilt finished with 15 first downs, 262 yards, two turnovers and nine team penalties for 75 yards. On defense the Commodores gave up 24 first downs, 376 total yards and 8-of-13 on third-down tries alongside zero takeaways. Vanderbilt is sitting on a five-game losing streak right now, scoring 17 or fewer points in four of those. To be fair however, those have all been tough matchups against talented teams.
As for the Bulldogs, they weren’t able to do much of anything against Texas’ defense in their latest road loss last weekend. Mississippi State gained just 187 total yards with 12 first downs and a 6-of-18 success rate on third downs. The Bulldogs defense gave up 280 yards on the other side with 13 first downs and 6-of-14 on third downs allowed. That makes four straight losses for Mississippi State now, and they’ve scored a combined 18 points in their last three games. Granted, three of those four losses were against ranked teams and the Bulldogs schedule eases up a bit for a few games starting here. Still, I don’t think Mississippi State has enough gas to power out a cover.

Vanderbilt Commodores Betting Preview
The Commodores opened up their season with a nice win streak but they’ve been struggling mightily since then. Vanderbilt beat Austin Peay, Delaware and NC State over that opening trio before a loss to Auburn. Losses to Georgia, Ole Miss, Arkansas and Kentucky have come since then. Across the first eight games of the season so far, that gives the Commodores a 3-5 record in the books for their troubles.
In the Kentucky game back on October 24, the Commodores jumped out to a 10-0 lead early but then gave up a couple of unanswered touchdowns on the way to a 14-10 deficit at the break. Vanderbilt had the score 21-17 at one point in the third quarter but didn’t visit the scoreboard again during a 34-17 loss. QB Jared Curtis was 27-of-36 for 247 yards, two touchdowns and a pick. Junior Sherrill caught eight balls for 78 yards, and leading rusher Jamezell Lassiter led the rush on just six yards from one carry.
Mississippi State Bulldogs Betting preview
Over on the Mississippi State side, they also got off to a nice start this year before hitting the proverbial skids. The Bulldogs beat LA-Monroe, Minnesota, South Carolina and Missouri in their first four outings. A losing streak began after that though, as Mississippi State would fall versus Alabama, LSU and Oklahoma. In the first seven games of the year that would give the Bulldogs a shaky 4-3 record overall.
Matched up against Texas on Halloween, the Bulldogs were blanked in the first half, giving up two touchdowns and a field goal on the way to a 17-0 halftime deficit. Mississippi State managed to find the scoreboard in the third quarter but they were nowhere near a comeback in a 31-3 loss. QB AJ Swann had just 97 yards on 12-of-15 passing and Fluff Bothwell carried 17 times for 49 yards. Marqus Johnson had six catches for 61 yards as well.
