The Maryland Terrapins and the Nebraska Cornhuskers meet Saturday in college football action from Memorial Stadium Lincoln. Maryland just finished up a big matchup at home versus Penn State. In that one the Terrapins dropped to 5-4 with a blowout defeat. As for Nebraska, they played Michigan State over the weekend. The 5-4 Cornhuskers went on to lose a close game. Maryland Terrapins 

The Terrapins won their first five games this year before hitting a losing streak in the Big Ten. Through eight outings, Maryland managed a solid 32.6 points per game with a pretty good mix of run and pass. The Terrapins had 19 scores through the air in that span, averaging 280.5 yards per game. Rush-wise, Maryland had 13 TDs and averaged 4.5 yards per carry. 

In their weekend matchup versus Penn State, Maryland was outscored 27-8 in the fourth quarter to cap off a tough blowout loss 51-15. Taulia Tagovailoa managed 286 pass yards with two scores and an interception. Billy Edwards rushed once for four yards to lead an ineffective rush, and Tai Felton had four catches for 75 yards.

The Cornhuskers added 4.7 yards per carry on the ground with 12 rush scores. 

Back on Saturday versus Michigan State, Nebraska had a 10-10 tie heading into the second half but eventually lost 20-17. Heinrich Haarberg managed 129 yards with two interceptions and a rush score in the defeat, and Emmett Johnson added 57 rush yards and a TD. Thomas Fidone was tops in receiving with 43 yards.

I’ll probably lean toward Nebraska at home here. I’m not touching this one though, as both teams are coming off difficult losses. The Cornhuskers managed 283 yards (129 passing), 19 first downs and three turnovers against a struggling Michigan State team in their latest defeat. Nebraska has ben at 20 or fear points in four of the last five games, so they’ll need the defense to stand tall in this one. 

As for Maryland, they posted negative 49 yards rushing against Penn State along with just 15 first downs, four turnovers and 4-of-12 on third-down tries. The Terrapins have lost four straight games, but to be fair they’ve been competitive against comparable squads. This one could probably go either way; it should be a close matchup.
