Why the Northwestern Wildcats will win

  • Northwestern has won each of its last five games against non-AP-ranked teams.
  • Nebraska has failed to cover the spread in each of its last six October games as a favorite.
  • Northwestern has covered the spread in five of its last six games.
  • Northwestern has won the first quarter in four of its last five games against conference opponents.

  • Each of Northwestern’s last four games against conference opponents have gone UNDER the total points line.

Matchup/League Facts

  • Three of Nebraska’s seven games this season have been decided by a margin of three points or less – equal-most amongst FBS teams.
  • Northwestern has recorded the equal-most home wins by a margin of three points or less of any FBS team this season (1).
  • Northwestern ranks 5th among FBS teams for time of possession per game this season (33:54).

Nebraska vs Northwestern Prediction

Northwestern comes into this matchup with one of the better records in the Big Ten to start this season, so this is a huge game for them to keep it going. The Wildcats have won four games in a row, including their last road game against Penn State. Nebraska is coming off of a bad offensive game against Minnesota, but they have scored at least 27 points in four of their last five games. The Cornhuskers continue to get inconsistent play from Raiola, even in their wins, so I think Northwestern and their defense has a shot to keep this game close.
