The Hawaii Rainbow Warriors and the Nevada Wolf Pack meet Saturday in college football action from Mackay Stadium. Hawaii took on San Jose State in their last outing. The 2-7 Warriors would go on to lose in a shutout. As for Nevada, they played New Mexico over the weekend. In that matchup the Wolf Pack moved to 2-6 with a 10-point victory. Hawaii Rainbow Warriors 

The Warriors managed a couple of solid wins in their first eight games this year but overall it’s been tough navigating this schedule. Hawaii posted 23.8 points per game during that time, and most of their success came through the air. The Warriors managed 20 pass touchdowns (with 11 interceptions) in those eight, alongside just three rushing scores and a 2.5-yard average per attempt. 

Back on Saturday versus San Jose State, the Warriors were down 21-0 by halftime, giving up points in every quarter during a 35-0 loss. QB Brayden Schager threw for 132 yards and an interception, and Matthew Shipley’s lone 17-yard carry put him atop the rushers. Alex Perry managed four catches for 42 yards as well.

Over on the Nevada side, they opened the season with six straight losses before taking out San Diego State, scoring 14 or fewer points in four of those seven games. That made for a rough 15.7 points-per-game average for the Wolf Pack, which included just four passing touchdowns against seven interceptions. The rush wasn’t much better, though (eight touchdowns; 3.5 yards per carry average). 

In their last appearance versus New Mexico, Nevada held the Lobos scoreless in the first half during a 34-24 victory. Brendon Lewis threw for just 92 yards on eight completions, but Jamaal Bell had a pretty solid day on 76 yards and a rush score. Dalton Campbell added 79 yards from two catches to top the receivers.

I’m going to take a stab on the Wolf Pack. This game could go a lot of different ways however, as it features a pair of struggling teams. That said, we should have a fun, competitive matchup overall. Nevada played relatively well in the New Mexico win over the weekend but also notched a whopping 12 penalties for 111 yards and gave up 317 passing yards to the Lobos. Still, that makes 27 or more points in two of the last three games for the Wolf Pack; they’ll be looking to keep that streak alive in this matchup. 

As for Hawaii, they coughed up three turnovers and collected just 198 total yards (146 passing) in their shutout loss to San Jose State last Saturday. The Warriors had 20 or more points in four straight games prior to that however, so this one could turn into a shootout.
