North Texas vs Rice Prediction
I have to lean toward North Texas here. The Green are coming off a shootout victory versus a pesky Florida Atlantic team, eventually posting 31 first downs and 644 total yards in the seven-point win. North Texas went 8-of-14 on third downs with 240 rushing yards but did have a couple of lost fumbles. The Mean Green defense gave up 523 yards, 29 first downs and 10-of-18 on third downs but also managed two takeaways. North Texas is looking good over this five-game win streak, scoring 45 or more points in every one of those games.
As for Rice, they didn’t look too bad themselves in a close shootout loss to Florida Atlantic. The Owls bagged 608 total yards, with 499 of those coming on the ground. The defense gave up 29 first downs and 461 total yards on the other side. Rice has been giving up truckloads of points in this seven-game losing streak: 28 or more in all but one.

We have looked at this information from a betting perspective and attempted to determine the best North Texas vs Rice pick.
Rice Owls Betting Preview
The Owls have a pretty ugly record this year, which goes without saying. Rice opened up well enough with a big win over Houston Christian, but they’ve since hit the skids. Over the last seven games the Owls have fallen versus Notre Dame, Western Michigan, Fresno State, UTSA, East Carolina, Tulsa and Florida Atlantic in succession. Over eight games so far this year that gives Rice a rough 1-7 record in the books for their troubles.
In the Florida Atlantic game back on October 24, the Owls were looking pretty good on a 14-0 lead following a couple of first-quarter touchdowns. The Owls let FAU back in it after that though, and went to the break with a 23-21 deficit. Rice continue to trade punches the rest of the way and when the dust settled the Owls had a 51-49 loss. QB Gael Ochoa was 2-of-5 for 80 yards and a touchdown while also leading the rush with 259 yards and four scores on 12 carries. Rice’s Braylen Walker had a 71-yard touchdown catch that put him atop the receivers.
North Texas Mean Green Betting Preview
Over on the Mean Green’s side, they kicked off the year on a shaky run but since then they’ve been doing quite well. North Texas lost tow of their first three versus Indiana and Texas State (with a win over UNLV), then hit a win streak. In the last five games the Mean Green have beaten Houston Christian, Tulsa, Charlotte, Navy and Florida Atlantic in succession. Over eight games that gives the team a 6-2 record.
Matched up against Florida Atlantic last Thursday, the Mean Green were down 17-10 at one points in the second quarter but wrestled back to a 24-24 tie by the break. North Texas scored a couple of TDs in the third and one more in the fourth on the way to a 48-41 victory in the end. QB Tayven Jackson was 33-of-46 for 404 yards and four touchdowns. Leading the rush was Jahiem White with 26 carries for 193 yards and two scores of his own. Justin Stevenson had nine catches for 119 yards and a touchdown as well.
