San Diego State Aztecs Betting Preview
The Aztecs have three games in the bag so far this year, with some pretty mixed results stemming from that trio. The opener was a pretty easy game versus Stony Brook. San Diego State blew through that one, scoring 14 points in both the first and fourth quarters during a 42-0 blowout shutout. The Aztecs defense held the Seawolves to just 95 total yards in that one with 1.8 yards per play on average. In game two versus Washington State, the Aztecs took their first loss of the year. San Diego State gave up points in each quarter during a 36-13 loss. The Aztecs offense could only muster 215 total yards in that one, with 133 coming via the passing game.
In their game versus California last Saturday the Aztecs scored 13 points in the second quarter and 14 more in the third on the way to a nice shutout win by a score of 34-0. QB Jayden Denegal was 15-of-18 for 189 yards and a score, while Lucky Sutton led the rush with 61 yards and a TD of his own from 12 totes. Tops in receiving was Jordan Napier with nine grabs for 154 yards and the touchdown.
Northern Illinois Huskies Betting Preview
Over on the Huskies’ side, they’ve got three games completed so far this year as well. Northern Illinois got into a tight battle with Holy Cross in their opener, posting 13 points in the fourth quarter during a 19-17 win. NIU managed to hold the Crusaders to 217 total yards in the win with 62 rush yards and 3.9 yards per play on average. In game two versus Maryland on September 5, the Huskies weren’t so fortunate. Northern Illinois gave up points in all four quarters on the way to a 20-9 loss. NIU managed just 91 passing yards (271 total) and 3.9 yards per play in the defeat.
In last weekend’s game versus Mississippi State, the Huskies gave up points in every quarter—including 24 unanswered points across the second half—on the way to a 38-10 loss. Josh Hoist threw for 135 yards, one TD and one pick on 14-of-23 passing, and Chavon Wright had 13 totes for 47 yards as the leading rusher. DeAree Rogers caught six balls for 84 yards and a touchdown as well.

Northern Illinois vs San Diego State Prediction
I’ll stay with San Diego State. That said, I’d like to see a little more variety from them this time. The Aztecs posted a nice shutout win over California last weekend, but Napier accounted for 154 of the team’s 189 passing yards and only two players (Napier and Jacob Bostick) had more than one catch. For that matter, only three players had positive receiving yardage. All of that said, it was still a nice win for the Aztecs. They were able to generate 321 yards of offense (132 rushing) and 6.3 yards per play but went just 3-of-10 on third-down tries. Defensively San Diego State came up with three takeaways and held the Bears to 6-of-17 on third-down conversions. The Aztecs have shut out their opponents in both wins so far this year.
As for NIU, they couldn’t find much room on offense against Mississippi State, generating just 267 yards (142 passing), 14 first downs and 1-of-9 on third downs. That makes just 19 combined points across the last two games for the Huskies. I don’t think their offense will be able to do much against the Aztecs this weekend either.
