The Purdue Boilermakers and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish meet Saturday in college football action from Notre Dame Stadium. Here’s a Notre Dame vs Purdue prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Notre Dame vs Purdue pick.

Purdue Boilermakers Betting Preview

Purdue has completed three games so far this year, kicking things off with a pretty easy matchup versus Ball State. In that one the Boilermakers played steady football, scoring in every quarter on the way to a 31-0 victory. QB Ryan Browne was 18-of-26 for 311 yards and two scores, while Devin Mockobee carried 14 times for 59 yards and a TD of his own. Arhmad Branch topped the receivers with three grabs for 101 yards and a TD in the shutout win.

In game two versus Southern Illinois, Purdue carried a modest 10-point lead into the second half. The Boilermakers topped things off with a fourth-quarter TD in a 34-17 win. Browne was 14-of-23 this time for 170 yards, two scores and a pick. Mockobee again led the rush with 32 totes for 126 yards and two scores, while George Burhenn caught three balls for a team-high 48 yards during the victory.

Last weekend versus USC, the Boilermakers gave up 14 points in the second quarter and 13 in the third during a 33-17 loss. Browne posted 305 yards with one TD and three picks during the defeat (but did have a rush score), while Mockobee carried 12 times for 45 yards to lead an anemic rush. EJ Horton had five catches for 70 yards, and Michael Jackson had seven grabs for 70 yards. Nitro Tuggle wasn’t far off with four catches for 69 yards and a score.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish Betting Preview

Over on the Notre Dame side, they’ve only got two games completed so far this year. First was a tough road matchup versus Miami in the opener. The Irish were down 21-7 going into the final quarter and eventually lost 27-24. Quarterback CJ Carr was 19-of-30 for 221 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Jadarian Price carried six times for 45 yards, and Eli Raridon caught six balls for 97 yards to lead the receivers in the defeat.

In last weekend’s big matchup with Texas A&M, the Irish coughed up 21 points in the second quarter and ended up losing a high-octane shootout 41-40. Carr was 20-of-32 for 293 yards, one TD and one interception. Jeramiyah Love rushed 23 times for 94 yards and a TD, and Price had 12 totes for 68 yards and two scores. Raridon caught four balls for 85 yards to top the receivers in the defeat.

Notre Dame vs Purdue Prediction

I’ll lean toward Notre Dame I suppose. The Irish have played two very difficult teams so far this year and they’ve notched a pair of close losses. This weekend will begin a nice stretch of comparatively manageable matchups however, so if Notre Dame is going to stay in the national conversation they’ve got to start flexing some muscle in outsized wins. The Irish didn’t look too bad offensively in the Texas A&M loss, posting 429 yards (293 passing), 6.0 yards per play and 23 first downs. Notre Dame held the Aggies to just 4-of-11 on third downs defensively but also surrendered 488 yards (360 passing), 7.1 yards per play and 24 first downs.

As for Purdue, they ultimately couldn’t handle a good USC team last weekend despite putting up 305 passing yards (357 total) and a 7-of-14 success rate on third downs. The three interceptions didn’t help, nor did the 6.8 yards per play surrendered by the defense. This weekend is going to be another difficult matchup, and I like Notre Dame to assert themselves in what should (finally) be a big win.
