The Penn State Nittany Lions and the Ohio State Buckeyes meet Saturday in college football action from Ohio Stadium. Here’s an Ohio State vs Penn State prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Ohio State vs Penn State pick.
Penn State Nittany Lions Betting Preview
The Nittany Lions opened the season on a nice run but they’ve since hit the proverbial skids. Penn State rolled past Nevada, FIU and Villanova in blowouts over their first three games (all at home), then fell to Oregon, UCLA and Northwestern in the next trio. In the loss to the Wildcats on October 11, the Nittany Lions were outscored 9-7 in the final quarter along the way to a 22-21 result. Penn State’s offense gathered just 137 passing yards, 13 first downs and a 6-of-11 result on third-down tries in that one, along with a couple of turnovers. The defense wasn’t bad statistically but couldn’t hold the Wildcats back well enough for a home win.
In their latest outing on October 18 versus Iowa, Penn State fell back into the loss column after a close game. The Lions posted points in every quarter—while also giving up points in every quarter—in a 25-24 road loss. QB Ethan Grunkmeyer was 15-of-28 for 93 yards and a pair of interceptions while Kaytron Allen paced the offense with his 28 carries for 145 yards and two scores. Trebor Pena was tops in receiving with three catches for just 19 yards in the loss.
Ohio State Buckeyes Betting Preview
Over on the Ohio State side, they’ve been rolling right along this season so far. The Buckeyes took out Texas, Grambling State, Ohio, Washington, Minnesota and Illinois over their first half-dozen games. In the October 11 road win over the Illini, Ohio State jumped out to a 20-3 lead by halftime and ended up with a 34-16 outcome. The defense was solid in that one, giving up just 47 rush yards and 4-of-14 on third-down conversion attempts alongside three takeaways. Ohio State’s offense didn’t have to do much on the other side in order to stay in front.
Back on October 18 in another road matchup versus Wisconsin, Ohio State kept their win streak going in a big way. The Buckeyes scored 17 points in the first quarter alone, rolling to a 34-0 blowout shutout in the end. QB Julian Sayin had a 36-of-42 line for 393 yards and four scores, while leading rusher Isaiah West had nine carries for 55 yards. Carnell Tate was the leading receiver with six grabs for 111 yards and two touchdowns in the big win.

Ohio State vs Penn State Prediction
I’ll stick with Ohio State. These two teams are on opposite trajectories right now so it seems like an obvious pick but I can’t side against the Buckeyes. In the win over Wisconsin, Ohio State posted 393 passing yards and 26 first downs alongside zero turnovers. The defense was even better with just 144 yards, 3.1 yards per play, nine first downs and 2-of-11 on third-down tries allowed. The game was basically over by halftime. The Buckeyes have allowed fewer than 17 points in all seven games so far this year; there likely won’t be much room for Penn State on Saturday.
Speaking of the Lions, they posted just 93 passing yards, 3.6 yards per play, 19 first downs and a couple of interceptions in their latest road loss to Iowa. The defense coughed up a whopping 245 rush yards but otherwise didn’t do too badly. It’s tough to imagine Penn State scoring well enough to keep a relative pace with Ohio State, especially on the road. The Nittany Lions have 21 or more points in all seven of their games thus far, however I don’t see them being able to keep that trend going against a tough Ohio State defense.
