The UTEP Miners and the Oklahoma Sooners meet in week 1 college football action from Memorial Stadium on Friday. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this game. Here’s a UTEP Miners vs. Oklahoma Sooners Prediction.

UTEP Miners Recap

The UTEP Miners come into the 2026 season looking to make some noise in their new digs after transferring from Conference USA to the Mountain West with new co-ordinators and assistants. The Miners went 2-10 including 1-7 in CUSA play. EJ Colson is expected to be the starter after coming over from Incarnate Word and UCF with a 16-4 TD-INT ratio in 2025 at the FCS level. On defense, UTEP only brings back 4 of their top 12 tacklers including Jayden Wilson and Justin Content.

Oklahoma Sooners Recap

The Oklahoma Sooners come into the 2026 campaign looking to find a clean bill of health at QB with John Mateer as Mateer dealt with a broken bone in his throwing hand for much of 2025, which affected his throwing hand in a big way but despite that, Oklahoma still went 10-3 and made the college football playoff, losing to Alabama 34-24. Isaiah Sategna is back as Mateer’s top target, while Trell Harris transfers in after stops at Virginia and Kent State. On defense, Brent Venables’ defense has one of the highest returning production percentages in the SEC including Kip Lewis at LB and David Stone and Taylor Wein on the line.

UTEP Miners vs. Oklahoma Sooners Prediction

I’m on Oklahoma here. I just think that UTEP’s in a world of hurt here and I wouldn’t be surprised if they got shut out in this game. Oklahoma does have Michigan on deck, but I think this is a statement game for Mateer to say that he’s back and 100%, and I look for a rout from Oklahoma here by 50+. Give me the Sooners.
