The South Carolina Gamecocks and the Ole Miss Rebels meet Saturday in college football action from Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. Here’s an Ole Miss vs South Carolina prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Ole Miss vs South Carolina pick.
South Carolina Gamecocks Betting Preview
The Gamecocks opened up the season with a couple of wins, taking out Virginia Tech and South Carolina State before falling versus Vanderbilt and Missouri in the next pair. South Carolina would power out a win over Kentucky in game five, then fell versus LSU and Oklahoma during the next two outings. In the loss to the Sooners, the Gamecocks gave up points in every quarter on the way to a 26-7 result. South Carolina’s offense posted just 224 yards with 3.3 yards per play, 15 first downs, 3-of-15 on third-down tries and two picks.
In their big matchup with Alabama last weekend, the Gamecocks had a slow first half with only a couple of field goals, but then hit a 9-0 run in the third to take a 15-14 edge. After a 15-7 run in the final frame however, South Carolina had a tough home loss to a great team 29-22. QB La Norris Sellers logged an 18-of-32 line for 222 yards, one TD and one pick. Leading team rusher was Sellers as well on 18 carries, 67 yards and a score, while Nyck Harbor’s 54-yard TD catch put him atop the receivers. Rahsul Faison added four grabs for 47 yards as well.
Ole Miss Rebels Betting Preview
Over on the Ole Miss side, they started out the year on a great clip, bagging wins in each of their first six games. The Rebels dispatched Georgia State, Kentucky, Arkansas, Tulane, LSU and Washington State in that time. Game seven was Ole Miss’ first loss though, as they fell versus Georgia 43-35 on October 18. The Rebels gave up 17 points in both the second and fourth quarters along the way. Offensively Ole Miss gathered 351 total yards with 21 first downs and 5-of-9 on third-down tries in the losing road effort.
On Saturday in their game versus Oklahoma, the Rebels posted a 22-10 edge in the first half. Ole Miss was outscored 16-3 in the third, but rallied for a 9-0 run from there in a 34-26 victory. QB Trinidad Chambliss went 24-of-44 for 315 yards and a touchdown, while leading rusher Kewan Lacy had 27 totes for 78 yards and two scores. Tops in receiving during the road victory was Winston Watkins with four grabs for 111 yards along the way. Harrison Wallace added five catches for 64 yards as well.

Ole Miss vs South Carolina Prediction
I’ll lean toward Ole Miss, but you could probably make a case either way. The Rebels notched a nice road win over Oklahoma on the road last weekend, bagging 431 total yards (315 passing), 5.0 yards per play and no turnovers. The 9-of-21 on third downs could have been a bit better, but the defense held things together on the other side. Ole Miss gave up just 4-of-14 on third-down conversion attempts and only 14 first downs to the Sooners. It was a nice bounce-back effort following the high-scoring eight-point loss to Georgia, and that gives Ole Miss a nice 69 combined points over their last two outings.
As for South Carolina, they get credit for a gritty home effort against a very good visiting Alabama team. The Gamecocks made some mistakes though, including two turnovers and a sketchy 6-of-17 success rate on third downs. The defense grabbed a couple of lost fumbles though, and held the Tide to just 72 rushing yards. That unit will need to be on point once again this weekend in order to contain Ole Miss.
