The California Golden Bears and Washington Huskies meet Saturday in week 8 PAC-12 college football action from California Memorial Stadium. Washington is fresh off a matchup versus Arizona. In that one the Huskies won by 10 points. As for California, they played Colorado over the weekend. The Bears went on to lose by seven in OT. Washington kicked off the year with a series of wins, taking out Kent State 45-20, Portland State 52-6, Michigan State 39-28 and Stanford 40-22. The Huskies would fall in their next pair to UCLA 40-32 and Arizona State 45-38.

In the Arizona game, the Huskies scored 14 points in the second quarter and 21 more in the third during a 49-39 victory. QB Michael Penix finished with 516 yards and four scores. Cameron Davis added 41 yards with two touchdowns.

Over on the California side, they beat UC Davis 34-13 and UNLV 20-14 before a loss 24-17 versus Notre Dame. The Golden Bears would bounce back with a 49-31 win versus Arizona in game four, but then faltered with a 28-9 loss to Washington State.

Matched up against Colorado, California had a 7-3 lead going into the final quarter but eventually lost 20-13 in overtime. The Bears’ Jack Plummer threw for 262 yards, one TD and one INT. Jaydn Ott added 47 yards off 16 carries to lead the rushers.

The Huskies are 4-1 ATS in their last five on turf and 23-57-2 ATS in their last 82 in October. Washington is 10-25 ATS in their last 35 conference games.

Meanwhile, the Bears are 5-1 ATS in the last six at home and 6-1-1 ATS in their last eight after an ATS loss. Cal is 7-2 ATS in their last nine on turf.

PICK: I’m probably sticking with Washington. The Huskies put up a nice offensive effort in the win over Arizona last weekend, logging 595 total yards, 8.2 yards per play, 31 first downs and zero turnovers. The bad news is that Washington also gave up 526 total yards (400 pass yards), 31 first downs and 7.7 yards per play, but the defense tightened up when they had to.

As for California, they managed 297 yards (35 rush yards), 19 first downs, two turnovers and a 5-of-17 rate on third-down tries during their loss to Colorado. It’s not going to be any easier to keep pace in this one.
