Washington State opened up their 2022 season with a 24-17 win over Idaho. The next game against Wisconsin was a close 17-14 win, then the Cougars had something of an easier time with Colorado State during a 38-7 blowout. Washington State would then fall to Oregon 44-41.
On Saturday versus California, the Cougars scored 14 points in the fourth quarter to cap off a 28-9 win. QB Cameron Ward finished with 343 yards, three scores and two picks. Renard Bell added 115 yards and a score off eight catches to lead the receivers.
Over on the USC side, they began the year with a 66-14 win over Rice and a 41-28 victory versus Stanford. In game three, the Trojans kept it going with a 45-17 win over Fresno State. USC eked out a 17-14 win in the Oregon State matchup to keep it going.
Matched up versus Arizona State, USC scored 14 points in both the first and fourth quarters in a 42-25 win. QB Caleb Williams managed 348 yards with three scores and a pick, while Travis Dye led the rush with 62 yards and two scores from 13 carries.
PICK: I’m going to try Washington State here. The Cougars put up a nice game against Cal, posting 415 yards (343 passing), 21 first downs and 6.4 yards per play. It wasn’t all perfect, though; Washington State went a tepid 6-of-14 on third downs and had a couple of interceptions.
As for USC, they kept it rolling with another solid effort in the Arizona State win. The Trojans posted 485 yards of offense, 7.2 yards per play and 29 first downs. It’s a tall order, but if Washington State is on point here I think they can get in for a cover.
