Penn State and Oregon meet Saturday in Week 5 college football action from Beaver Stadium. Here’s a Penn State vs Oregon prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Penn State Nittany Lions and Oregon Ducks pick.
Can Oregon Make a Statement?
Oregon looks like the real deal, and if they were able to pick up on the road against this Penn State team, we have to talk about this team as maybe the favorite to win the National Championship. Oregon has played a pretty cupcake schedule so far this season, and every game has been a blowout. Oregon faced off against Oregon State in the last game, and they scored 41 points while the defense gave up only seven. Dante Moore completed 21 of his 31 passes for 305 yards, four touchdowns, and zero interceptions. The defense allowed Maalik Murphy to complete only 5 of his 18 passes for 68 yards.
Oregon on the season, is averaging 50.8 points while their defense is giving up 9.25 points per game. The offense is ranked 7th while the defense is ranked 9th. The offense is obviously going to need to be good, but more importantly, the defense is going to need to make another big statement.
Big Test for Penn State
Penn State comes into this game with a 3-0 record, but there is still some concern that this team might not be as good as hyped. Penn State has knocked Nevada, FIU, and Villanova so far this season, and even though the scores look good, the offense hasn’t looked super clean. In the last game against Villanova, Penn State scored 52 points on the way to the 46 point victory. Drew Allar has been a bit inconsistent and he completed 16 of his 29 passes for 209 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Running back Kaytron Allen finished with 10 carries for 86 yards and a touchdown. Two games ago against FIU, Drew Allar completed 19 of his 33 passes for 200 yards and a touchdown.
Penn State on the season, is averaging 44 points while their defense is giving up 5.67 points per game. The offense is ranked 13th in all of college football, while the defense is ranked 3rd. Allar on the season has completed 64.8 percent of his passes for 626 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception.

Penn State vs Oregon Prediction
Getting any sort of points here with Oregon is a gift. I am not sold on Allar under center, and against Oregon’s defense, he is going to really struggle. Dante Moore has been elite under center for Oregon, and he’s going to have a huge game here. In his last game, he threw for four touchdowns, and he’s going to light up this Penn State defense. Now will Penn State give up 42 points? Yeah, I don’t think so, but they are going to give up more than 10. It wouldn’t shock me if they actually gave up more than 30, and the scoring by Oregon is going to be the difference. Back Oregon to cover the spread.
