The Boston College Eagles and the Pittsburgh Panthers meet Saturday in college football action from Acrisure Stadium. Here’s a Pittsburgh vs Boston College prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Pittsburgh vs Boston College pick.
Boston College Eagles Betting Preview
The Eagles opened up the season in a major way, but then hit the skids. Boston College’s first game of the year was a 66-10 blowout victory versus an overmatched Fordham team. Game two was a road matchup versus Michigan State, and the Eagles ended up losing that one 42-40 in overtime for a tough result. In game three versus Stanford, Boston College held a 20-20 tie at the break but ended up losing 30-20 after failing to score outside of the second quarter. The Eagles offense generated 389 yards of offense in the defeat, with 333 of those coming through the air. On defense Boston College coughed up 213 yards rushing to the Cardinal.
In last weekend’s game versus California, the Eagles were looking pretty good heading into the fourth quarter with a 17-14 lead. Boston College was outscored 14-7 the rest of the way however, and ended up losing 28-24. QB Dylan Lonergan finished 21-of-37 for 197 yards and a couple of picks. Turbo Richard led the rush with 15 carries, 171 yards and two touchdowns while Lewis Bond had seven catches for a team-high 77 yards in the tough defeat.
Pittsburgh Panthers Betting Preview
Over on the Pittsburgh side, they got off to a solid start through their first couple of games. The opener was a 61-9 blowout victory at home versus Duquesne, then came another big win. The Panthers took out Central Michigan 45-17 in game two. Pittsburgh’s first loss came in overtime on September 13 as they fell 31-24 on the road versus West Virginia. The Panthers offense posted 349 total yards (46 rushing) in that one with 15 first downs and a rough 4-of-17 success rate on third-down tries. Perhaps the biggest detriment to their fortunes however, were the 14 penalties for 118 yards in the defeat.
Matched up against Louisville last weekend, the Panthers were sitting pretty with a 17-0 lead after the first quarter. Pittsburgh ran out of steam in the second half however, coughing up 17 unanswered points on the way to a rough loss 34-27. QB Eli Holstein finished with 228 yards, two TDs and two picks on 14-of-26 passing while Ja’Kyrian Turner led the rush on six carries for 36 yards. Cataurus Hicks was the top receiver with four catches for 113 yards and a score in the losing effort.

Pittsburgh vs Boston College Prediction
I’ll take a stab on Pitt, but I’m probably avoiding this one. The Panthers had a pretty miserable outing versus Louisville last weekend. Pittsburgh totaled 339 yards (259 passing) and 6.2 yards per play but also went just 1-of-10 on third-down conversions and had a whopping five turnovers (two fumbles). On defense Pitt gave up 392 yards, 339 of that being via the pass. The Panthers also held the ball for just 20:35 of game time. That makes consecutive one-touchdown losses after two blowout wins to start the season. Pittsburgh needs something to help get their mojo back.
As for Boston College, they were in a position to win last weekend down the stretch against Cal but the mistakes caught up with them. It was a sloppy game overall, with the Eagles contributing 15 of the game’s 26 total penalties for 109 yards. The two interceptions and spotty 4-of-11 success rate on third downs didn’t help matters either. On defense Boston College gave up 372 yards (254 passing), 23 first downs and 6-of-12 on third-down tries. This next matchup seems like a dice roll on both sides.
