This game has been postponed due to the Texas A&M Aggies being forced to withdraw due to COVID. The Texas A&M Aggies and the Wake Forest Demon Deacons meet Friday, December 31 in Gator Bowl college football action from EverBank Field. Texas A&M managed an 8-4 run this year. The Aggies are coming off a loss to LSU in their last outing. As for the Deacons, they’re 10-3 on the year and fell to Pittsburgh in their last game. Texas A&M started out the year at 3-2 with losses to Arkansas and Mississippi State. The Aggies beat Alabama, Missouri, South Carolina and Auburn from there. Over the final trio Texas A&M beat Prairie View in between losses to Ole Miss and LSU.

In the LSU loss back on November 27, the Aggies showed some life with 14 fourth-quarter points but it wasn’t enough in a 27-24 result. QB Zach Calzada finished on 242 yards with three scores, and Deven Achane caught five balls for 72 yards.

Over on the Wake Forest side, they won their first eight games of the year. The Demon Deacons’ first loss came to North Carolina on November 6, then they lost again to Clemson a couple games later. Wake finished up with a win over Boston College and a loss to Pittsburgh in the ACC Championship.

In the Pitt game, Wake Forest scored 21 points in the first quarter and was completely shut down from there in an eventual 45-21 blowout defeat. QB Sam Hartman had 213 yards, two TDs and four picks. Taylor Morin caught four passes for 83 yards and a score.

The Deacons are 4-1 ATS in the last five after an ATS loss and 2-8 ATS in their last 10 on grass. Wake is 1-4 ATS in their last five neutral-site games and 0-4 ATS in their last four in December.
Meanwhile, the Aggies are 5-0 ATS in their last five versus the ACC and 4-1 ATS in their last five in December. Texas A&M is 5-2 ATS in the last seven Friday games and 1-4 ATS in the last five neutral-site games.

PICK: I’m going to try Wake Forest in this one. The Deacons need to have a good bounce-back game here, though. Wake put up 295 yards of offense in the Pitt game and couldn’t keep up with the hurried pace. The Demon Deacons ended up with just 3.5 yards per play, eight penalties and the four interceptions. That said, Wake Forest has normally stood pretty tall against tough competition this season (outside of their last pair).

As for Texas A&M, they’ve got a big turnaround to make as well. LSU posted 412 yards of offense and 22 first downs against the Aggies, which is a bit out of character for Texas A&M these days. I like this one to be a higher-scoring, competitive game with Wake staying close and bagging a cover.
