The Purdue Boilermakers and Michigan State Spartans meet Saturday in week 10 Big Ten college football action from Ross-Ade. Michigan State is fresh off a big matchup versus Michigan. In that one, the Spartans pulled off an epic four-point victory. As for Purdue, they played Nebraska last weekend. The Boilermakers ended up snagging a five-point win. Michigan State kicked off the year on a nice roll, winning each of their first seven outings. The Spartans dispatched Northwestern, Youngstown State, Miami-FL, Nebraska (OT), Western Kentucky, Rutgers and Indiana in succession.

In Saturday’s game versus Michigan, the Spartans were down 23-14 at the break but surged in the second half on the way to an excellent 37-33 comeback win. QB Payton Thorne had 196 yards and two picks, but the star was Kenneth Walker with 197 rush yards and a whopping five touchdowns.

Over on the Boilermakers’ side, they went 3-1 over their first four with a loss to Notre Dame amid wins versus Oregon State, UConn and Illinois. Purdue then lost to Minnesota, beat Iowa 24-7 and lost to Wisconsin 30-13 over the next three.

In last weekend’s matchup versus Nebraska, the Boilermakers turned a 17-14 halftime deficit into a 28-23 victory. Aidan O’Connell finished with 233 yards and two scores. King Doerue had 74 yards on 17 carries, and Demetress Bell posted 74 yards on nine receptions.

The Spartans are 6-0-2 ATS in their last eight overall and 3-0-2 ATS in their last five after an ATS win. Michigan State is also 4-0-1 ATS in their last five conference games.

Meanwhile the Boilermakers are 6-2 ATS versus a team with a winning record and 4-9 ATS in their last 13 overall. Purdue is 1-6 ATS in their last seven at home as well.

PICK: I’m going to take a stab on Michigan State, so long as they don’t have a hangover from the big rivalry win last weekend. The Spartans’ victory was a strange one, as the team did nearly all of their damage on the ground with 199 total rush yards and five scores from Walker. Michigan State gave up 27 first downs and 552 total yards alongside their seven penalties and two turnovers, but they still found a way to get a big W. Rest assured, Big Ten fans will be talking about that game for a while.

As for Purdue, they were outplayed in a lot of statistical categories versus Nebraska but still found a way to pull off the victory. The Boilermakers came up with four interceptions and held the Cornhuskers to a 4-of-10 mark on third-down tries. This should be a pretty interesting matchup overall, and honestly you could probably make a good case for either team.
