The Kent State Golden Flashes and the Sacramento State Hornets meet Friday in college football action from Hornet Stadium in Sacramento. Here’s a Sacramento State vs Kent State prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Sacramento State vs Kent State pick.
Kent State Golden Flashes Betting Preview
The Flashes have had a pretty rough season so far. Kent State opened up at 2-2 in their first four games, taking out Wofford and Ball State in that time. Since then Kent State has gone just 1-3 though, with losses to Ohio, Western Michigan and South Florida ahead of a victory versus Akron. That gives Kent State a 3-5 run through eight games so far.
In the Akron matchup last weekend the Flashes got through a pretty quiet first half with a 7-7 tie. Kent State got it going in the second half though, bagging two third-quarter TDs on the way to a 35-20 victory in the end. QB Dru DeShields was 18-of-33 for 294 yards and four touchdowns while Wayne Harris had nine catches for 156 yards and three scores.
Sacramento State Hornets Betting Preview
Over on the Sacramento State side, they’ve had even worse luck in the win column this year. The Hornets lost to Eastern Michigan in the opener before a win over MS Valley State. Since then it’s been losses to Fresno State, North Dakota State, UMass, Bowling Green, Ohio and Ball State for a 1-7 record through eight games so far.
In the Ball State game last weekend the Hornets were ahead 10-7 at one point in the second quarter but still entered the locker room with a 20-10 deficit. Sacramento State managed to score once in the second half but was otherwise quiet in a 34-17 loss. QB Jackson Sharman was 17-of-27 for 187 yards and two scores. Jace Wilson caught three balls for 89 yards and a TD.

Sacramento State vs Kent State Prediction
I’ll stick with Kent State, but there’s not a whole lot to like here. The Flashes took out a struggling Akron team in their last outing, posting 376 yards, 21 first downs and 4-of-11 on third downs along the way. Kent State gave up quite a bit on defense though: 26 first downs and 422 yards total. The Zips’ 15 penalties for 165 yards helped matters as well. The Flashes had scored just 19 combined points over the previous three games though, so the 35 points were a welcome sight.
As for Sac State, they mustered just 16 first downs and 3-of-12 on third downs in their loss to Ball State. The Hornets have lost six straight games now, scoring 10 or fewer points in five of them.
