In the Air Force matchup last weekend, the Bison held a commanding lead 35-13 by the start of the fourth quarter. Things got interesting from there however, as North Dakota State was outscored 19-3 during a 38-32 victory. QB Nathan Hayes was 15-of-23 for 228 yards, two TDs and a pick while Myles Mitchell led the rush on 61 yards and two scores from 15 carries.

Over on the Hornets’ side, they’ve also got three games in the can so far. Sac State played Eastern Michigan on August 29, giving up 21 points in the second quarter during a 28-17 loss at Rynearson Stadium. In their second outing versus Mississippi Valley State, Sacramento State got their first win in blowout fashion 52-0 thanks in part to 17 points in the second quarter alone.

Matched up against Fresno State in game three, the Hornets gave up 32 unanswered points in the second quarter alone. Sacramento State wasn’t able to get any closer than that, eventually losing in blowout fashion 49-3. QB Jackson Sharman was 15-of-31 for 150 yards and an interception while Jamar Curtis had nine carries for 48 yards to top the rushers.

I’ll stick with North Dakota State. The Bison’s win over Air Force got a little too close for comfort at the end but they still walked away unscathed. North Dakota State managed 374 yards and 6.2 yards per play but didn’t do great on third downs (4-of-12). The defense gave up 207 rush yards and 21 first downs but was solid overall for most of the game.

As for Sac State, they couldn’t do much against Fresno State last weekend. The Hornets posted just 4.0 yards per play with 16 first downs and 3-of-13 on third-down tries offensively. The defense gave up 542 yards (349 passing) with 8.6 yards per play and 26 first downs. I don’t see the team rallying to post a cover here.
