The New Mexico Lobos and the San Jose State Spartans meet Friday in college football action from Spartan Stadium. Here’s a San Jose State vs New Mexico prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best San Jose State vs New Mexico pick.
New Mexico Lobos Betting Preview
The Lobos have four games in the bag so far this season. New Mexico started out with an unenviable matchup versus Michigan on August 30, eventually falling 34-17 after a 24-10 halftime deficit. Game two against Idaho State was the Lobos’ first win, a final score of 32-22. In the September 12 matchup versus UCLA, New Mexico was able to keep it going thanks to 21 points in the fourth quarter on the way to a 35-10 victory. The Lobos posted 450 total yards of offense in that one, including 298 yards on the ground. Despite a couple of lost fumbles, there wasn’t much else to complain about.
In last weekend’s matchup versus New Mexico State, the Lobos had a tight battle going in the first half, entering the locker room with a 17-14 deficit. New Mexico turned it on from there however, notching a 24-3 run over the final two quarters to power out a 38-20 win in the end. QB Jack Layne threw for 303 yards and four scores on 23-of-30 passing, and Scottre Humphrey carried 13 times for 41 yards to top the rushers. Tops in receiving was Keagan Johnson with five catches for 117 yards and a touchdown.
San Jose State Spartans Betting Preview
Over on the San Jose State side, they’ve similarly got four games in the books so far this season. The Spartans opened up the year with a home matchup versus Central Michigan. San Jose State ended up falling in that one during a tough 16-14 outcome, though. Ditto for game two versus a tough Texas squad: the Spartans took a blowout loss 38-7 in the end. The good news is that San Jose State managed to get their first win of the year in a home game versus Idaho on September 20. Despite an early 7-0 hole, the Spartans were able to claw back for a 31-28 nail-biter finish. Despite only holding the ball for 20:59 of game time, San Jose State was able to accumulate 420 yards of offense (222 passing), 8.9 yards per play and a nice 7-of-10 result on third-down tries during the victory.
Matched up against Stanford on Saturday, the Spartans were up 20-14 by the break and carried that lead into the fourth quarter. San Jose State was outscored 16-9 from there however and ended up losing a tough one on the road 30-29. QB Walker Eget finished 36-of-58 for 473 yards and three scores, while also leading the rush with just 19 yards off two carries. Kyri Shoels topped the receivers on 10 catches for 147 yards and a touchdown, and Danny Scudero had 11 catches for 135 yards and two scores of his own.

San Jose State vs New Mexico Prediction
I’ll likely lean toward New Mexico in this one. The Lobos started slowly against New Mexico State last weekend but eventually looked pretty solid. The offense generated 476 total yards (344 passing), 6.9 yards per play, 24 first downs and a respectable 7-of-14 success rate on third downs. There were a couple of lost fumbles though, and New Mexico committed eight penalties for 55 yards. On the other side the Lobos defense gave up 304 total yards but only 15 on the ground and 4.5 yards per play alongside 16 first downs. That gives New Mexico three straight games with 32 or more points scored—all victories. The Spartans have given up a combined 58 points over their last two outings, so that’s good news for the Lobos.
