Stanford and Boston College meet Saturday in Week 3 college football action from Stanford Stadium. Here’s a Stanford vs Boston College prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Stanford Cardinal vs Boston College Eagles pick.

Boston College Fell Just Short in the Last Game

Boston College in the first game faced off against Fordham and they scored 66 points on the way to the victory. In the last game against Michigan State, Boston College scored 40 points but they ended up losing by two points in overtime. Boston College scored 21 points in the second quarter, but the offense the rest of the game really let them down. Dylan Longeran completed 34 of his 45 passes for 390 yards, four touchdowns, and zero interceptions. Turbo Richard was the top rusher putting up 13 carries for 55 yards, and a touchdown.

The offense got out to a really slow start, and that can’t happen again here. This is a very winnable game, they just can’t be letting Stanford hang around. The one way they dominate this game is by getting out to a fast start and not letting Stanford have any hope.

Why Boston College Will Beat Stanford

  • Boston College has won each of its last 10 games as a favorite against non-AP-ranked teams.
  • Stanford has lost 22 of its last 23 games as an underdog in California.
  • Stanford has failed to cover the spread in eight of its last nine September games at Stanford Stadium.
  • Boston College has covered the spread in each of its last five games against conference opponents.

Stanford Isn’t Good

Stanford isn’t good, there isn’t any other way to put it, and at this point we probably should be concerned if they are going to even win a game. In the first game of the season, Stanford was competitive against Hawaii, but they ended up falling short. In the last game against BYU, Stanford scored only three points total and although the defense wasn’t awful, they gave up 27 points, and that led to the defeat. Ben Gulbranson was under center and he completed 17 of his 32 passes for 142 yards, zero touchdowns, and two interceptions. The running game also wasn’t consistent enough and that is something that could be a major issue as the game goes on. Micah Ford was the top rusher but he only put up 21 yards.

The biggest issue for Stanford is they don’t really have a quality quarterback and it’s hard to play high level football when you don’t have a good quarterback, and can’t run the ball. If they want any chance in this game, they are going to need the defense to step up in a major way. This isn’t a team that can score 30 points and expect to win.

Why Stanford Will Beat Boston College

  • Boston College has lost five of its last six road games in September.
  • The home team has won seven of Stanford’s last nine games.
  • Boston College has failed to cover the spread in seven of its last eight September games as a favorite against non-AP-ranked teams.
  • The home team has covered the spread in each of Stanford’s last three games.

Stanford vs Boston College Prediction

Boston College might have lost the last game against Michigan State, but this game is going to be a whole lot different. Stanford just doesn’t have quality quarterback play, and Boston College is going to look like one of the best defenses in all the land. I don’t expect Stanford to score ten points here. Compare that to Boston College who is going to get a strong start here from Longeran. Look for Boston College to score at least 40 points here, and they will end up cruising to the victory. Back Boston College against the spread.
