Oregon started out the season with a pair of tough matchups but ended up powering through both. The Ducks beat Fresno State 31-24 in their opener, then beat Ohio State 35-28 in game two. Following that was a 48-7 blowout win over Stony Brook.
In game four versus Arizona, Oregon posted 24 points in the first half on the way to a 41-19 win. QB Anthony Brown logged 206 yards and three scores on 10-of-21 passing. Travis Dye rushed for 92 yards, and Jaylon Redd had a 63-yard TD catch.
Over on the Stanford side, they had a tough game versus Kansas State in their opener and fell 24-7. The Cardinals bounced back in their next two games however, beating USC 42-28 then Vanderbilt 41-23 to get back above .500 on the year.
The Cardinal played UCLA in their last outing. In that one Stanford fell behind 21-7 at halftime and couldn’t catch up in a 35-24 defeat. QB Tanner McKee managed 293 yards with three scores. Elijah Higgins caught five balls for 103 yards and a TD of his own.
The Ducks are 25-10 ATS in their last 35 on grass and 1-4 ATS in their last five overall. Oregon is 1-4 ATS in their last five conference games as well.
Meanwhile, the Cardinal are 4-1-1 ATS in their last six conference games and 5-2-1 ATS in their last eight overall. Stanford is 0-4 ATS in their last four at home.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Oregon. The Ducks have a few things to work on here, though. Oregon gave up 435 yards to Arizona in their last outing, along with 31 first downs and a 4-of-4 mark on fourth-down tries. The good news is that the offense was working pretty well for most of the game.
As for Stanford, they didn’t do horribly against a good UCLA team last weekend, with 293 passing yards and 6.7 yards per play. That said the Cardinal notched just 11 first downs and let the Bruins run 80 plays to their own 54. I don’t think they’ll be able to hang with the Ducks for long.
