The California Golden Bears and the Syracuse Orange meet Saturday in college football action from JMA Wireless Dome in Syracuse. Here’s a Syracuse vs California prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Syracuse vs California pick.

California Golden Bears Betting Preview

The Golden Bears didn’t have too bad of a season in 2025 but it still ended on a down note. Cal went 7-6 overall with a 4-4 run in a competitive ACC. The Bears landed close to the middle of the pack in that scenario, finishing ahead of seven other squads. Cal’s Hawaii Bowl appearance versus Hawaii ended in a disappointing 35-31 defeat.

In their opener versus UCLA last weekend, the Bears had it all tied up at 24-24 going into the fourth quarter. Cal gave up three unanswered touchdowns from there though, resulting in a 45-24 loss. QB Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele was 24-of-41 for 271 yards, two scores and two picks. Adam Mohammed carried 28 times for 120 yards and a score, while Ian Strong had five catches for 94 yards.

Syracuse Orange Betting Preview

Over on the Syracuse side, they had a rough campaign last season. The Orange managed to go just 3-9 overall with an ugly 1-7 run in the ACC. Syracuse finished in dead last among the standings with that mark, right next to Boston College. The Orange finished off the season with an eight-game losing streak.

The Orange took on New Hampshire in their opener last weekend and didn’t have much trouble. Syracuse posted 27 points in the second quarter and 23 more in the fourth on the way to a 66-3 blowout win. QB Steve Angeli was 20-of-29 for 263 yards and three scores while Shavane Anderson had 102 yards and three scores on 10 carries. Umari Hatcher had eight catches for 147 yards and two scores.

Syracuse vs California Prediction

I’m going to stick with Syracuse. We’ll try not to get too high on the Orange after their blowout win versus an overmatched New Hampshire team, but it was nonetheless quite impressive. Syracuse posted 514 yards (239 rushing) in that one with 32 first downs and 6.7 yards per play. The defense gave up just 154 yards (99 passing) and 10 first downs alongside three takeaways. The only real complaint was the Orange’s 11 penalties for 112 yards.

As for Cal, they imploded in the final quarter of their home loss to UCLA in the opener. The Bears ended up with 410 yards (291 passing), 23 first downs, 0-for-3 on fourth-down tries and three turnovers. The defense gave up 461 yards (277 rushing) and 8.5 yards per play on the other side, in addition to 6-of-11 on third downs. This weekend won’t get a whole lot easier.
