The TCU Horned Frogs meet the Texas Longhorns Saturday in Week 5 Big 12 college football action from Amon G. Carter Stadium. The Longhorns played Texas Tech in their last outing. In that matchup, Texas cruised to a 35-point victory. As for TCU, they’re coming off a game versus SMU. The Frogs ended up losing by eight points in that one. Texas began their year with a solid effort versus Louisiana, eventually powering out a 38-18 victory. The Longhorns had trouble with Arkansas during a 40-21 defeat in week two, but then bounced back for a 58-0 shutout win over Rice on September 18.

In game four versus Texas Tech, the Longhorns scored a whopping 42 points in the first half on the way to a 70-35 win. Quarterback Casey Thompson put up 303 yards with five touchdowns and one interception, and Bijan Robinson led the rushers on 137 yards from 18 totes.

Over on the TCU side, they stormed out of the gate this season with a big win over Duquesne, taking it 45-3. Game two was much tougher for the Horned Frogs, as they took a 19-14 deficit into halftime versus California. TCU would ultimately win that one 34-32 with a second-half comeback.

TCU took on SMU this past weekend. The Frogs took a 21-21 tie into halftime, but ultimately couldn’t keep the pace in a 42-34 loss. TCU’s Max Duggan put up 276 pass yards with three scores, and Zach Evans rushed for 113 yards on 15 carries.

The Longhorns are 5-1 ATS in their last six overall and 11-5 ATS in their last 16 on grass. Texas is 2-5-1 ATS in their last eight conference games as well.

Meanwhile, the Frogs are 5-1 ATS in their last six games overall and 4-1 ATS in their last five conference games. TCU is also 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games in October.

PICK: I’m going to stick with Texas. We could have some major offensive fireworks in this Big 12 matchup, though. The Longhorns amassed 639 total yards in their last game, including 336 on the ground and 8.5 yards per play. The team was disciplined with only five penalties and one turnover as well.

As for the Frogs, they had trouble keeping a lid on SMU’s offense, giving up 595 total yards and 29 first downs. The TCU offense was effective when they were on the field however, with 7.7 yards per play on average. Still, I don’t think they’ll be able to keep up with Texas.
