The Oregon State Beavers and the Texas Tech Red Raiders meet Saturday in college football action from Jones AT&T Stadium. Here’s a Texas Tech vs Oregon State prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Texas Tech vs Oregon State pick.

Oregon State Beavers Betting Preview

The Beavers kicked their season off with a matchup versus California. The Beavers fell behind 14-0 after the first quarter and ended up surrendering points in every period along the way to a 34-15 loss. QB Maalik Murphy went 21-of-33 for 244 yards and an interception, but also scored a rush touchdown among his five carries for 15 yards. Leading the ground attack was Anthony Hankerson with 15 totes for 42 yards and a touchdown. Trent Walker caught nine balls for 136 yards to top the receivers, and Hankerson hauled in four passes for 22 yards of his own during the defeat.

In game two versus Fresno State, the Beavers were able to put up points in every quarter. Unfortunately, Oregon State gave up 20 points in the first half alone—and 16 in the fourth quarter—during a 36-27 loss. Murphy threw for 371 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions on 31-of-48 passing. Hankerson again led the rush with 136 yards off 25 carries. Tastean Reddicks was the lead receiver with his 11 grabs for 158 yards, but Walker had a good day as well with seven grabs for 99 yards of his own.

Texas Tech Red Raiders Betting Preview

Over on the Texas Tech side, they played Arkansas-Pine Bluff in their opener and didn’t have any trouble. The Red Raiders scored 23 points in the first quarter and 24 points in the second on the way to a 67-7 blowout victory. QB Behren Morton was a stellar 16-of-18 for 201 yards and four touchdowns. Cameron Dickey led the rushers with 12 totes for 90 yards and a score, while Adam Hill rushed eight times for 78 yards. Reggie Virgil had four catches for 56 yards and a TD, while Coy Eakin also scored among his three grabs for 47 yards. Terrance Carter added two touchdowns on three catches for 42 yards as well.

Ditto for game two against Kent State; the Red Raiders blew through that one easily. Texas Tech scored 21 points in the first quarter and 27 in the second before cruising in the second half on the way to a 62-14 blowout victory. Morton was 18-of-26 for 258 yards and three scores this time, while Hill led the rush on 16 carries for 127 yards. Dickey added a pair of TDs but only had 10 yards on eight carries. Eakin led the receivers on three grabs for 59 yards and a touchdown. Reggie Virgil (five catches; 50 yards; two TDs) had a nice day also.

Texas Tech vs Oregon State Prediction

I might take a stab on Oregon State here. The Beavers are coming off a game they certainly should have won, if not for a few mistakes along the way. Oregon State’s defensive efforts were great: 318 yards (121 passing) allowed, 15 first downs, a pick and a 1-of-8 rate on third-down tries. On the other side the Beavers threw a couple of picks and the team had 10 penalties overall but the offense was good otherwise. Oregon State had 528 yards (388 passing), 30 first downs and a nice 10-of-17 run on third-down tries. This weekend’s matchup is obviously going to be much tougher, but the Beavers have enough talent to stay in cover range—provided they cut down on the momentum-killing mistakes.

As for Texas Tech, they haven’t really had to challenge themselves much with a couple of cupcake matchups in their first two outings. The Beavers will serve as the Raiders’ toughest test to date, but Texas Tech should still be in firm control.
