The Navy Midshipmen and the Tulsa Golden Hurricane meet Saturday in college football action from Chapman Stadium. Here’s a Tulsa vs Navy prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Tulsa vs Navy pick.
Navy Midshipmen Betting Preview
Navy’s first outing this year was a home matchup with VMI. The Midshipmen put on a clinic in that game (despite a relatively tepid 7-0 first quarter), scoring double-digit points in three of four periods for a 52-7 blowout victory. QB Blake Horvath was 6-of-7 for 66 yards and a touchdown, but the real firepower came from the running game. Braxton Woodson led the way on seven carries for 180 yards and a pair of scores, while Alex Tecza (15 carries; 89 yards) and Eli Heidenreich (nine carries; 70 yards) each scored a touchdown as well. Heidenreich was the leading receiver, hauling in six passes for 65 yards and the TD.
In game two versus UAB, the Midshipmen scored 24 points in the first half—but gave up 17 points in the second quarter alone. The good news is that Navy hit a 14-0 run in the second half and ended up taking the victory 38-24. The Midshipmen’s Horvath was 6-of-8 for 168 yards and a TD while also rushing 18 times for 72 yards and two more touchdowns. Tecza had another great day with 15 totes for 111 yards and a TD, and Heidenreich contributed seven rushes for 67 yards and a touchdown. Cody Howard (65 yards) and Luke Hutchison (63 yards) each had one catch, with Hutchison getting into the end zone on his.
Tulsa Golden Hurricane Betting Preview
Over on the Tulsa side, they didn’t have a ton of trouble with Abilene Christian in their opening matchup this year. The Golden Hurricane went into halftime with a 10-0 lead and scored in every quarter during a 35-7 blowout victory. QB Kirk Francis had 218 yards for a pair of touchdowns on 20-of-31 passing. Dominic Richardson had 20 carries for 142 yards and a TD, and Ajay Allen rushed nine times for 67 yards and a score. Micah Tease had four catches for 69 yards to lead the receivers, while Zion Booker caught six balls for 67 yards and a TD.
Matched up against New Mexico State last Saturday for game two, the Hurricane were behind by a field goal moving into the fourth quarter. After a 11-7 deficit from there, Tulsa had a 21-14 loss. Francis was 13-of-23 for 100 yards and a pick, while Baylor Hayes was 13-of-16 for 129 yards, one TD and one interception (along with a rush score). Richardson again led the rush on 93 yards from 20 carries. Booker was again atop the receivers with eight grabs for 51 yards.

Tulsa vs Navy Prediction
I’ll likely just stay with Navy. We all know what the Midshipmen are by now: a run-first, run-second and usually run-third team. It’s worked out nicely in the last two games, as Navy has a pair of wins in their back pocket. In the UAB matchup the Midshipmen posted 295 yards (463 total) on the ground along with 7.8 yards per play and 20 first downs. The eight penalties were a bit high, but as long as Navy can keep up the success with their limited passing game, the sky’s the limit for offense—relatively speaking of course.
As for Tulsa, they posted a valiant road effort versus New Mexico State last weekend but fell short in the end. The Hurricane managed 376 yards (229 passing) and 25 first downs in that one, but the two interceptions certainly hurt the cause. The defense wasn’t bad outside of the 10-of-19 on third downs, and interestingly enough Tulsa only allowed 39 rushing yards. That said, Navy should be able to find some success here and I think the Midshipmen will cover.
