Troy Trojans Betting Preview
Troy kicked off the season with a nice win over Nicholls, taking it at home 38-20. The Trojans would falter in the next pair with losses to Clemson and Memphis, then bounced back with a tight 21-17 win on the road versus Buffalo. Game five was another win, this time 31-24 versus South Alabama in overtime. In that one, the Trojans offense went just 5-of-15 on third-down conversions and had a couple of turnovers but also gained a nice 217 yards on the ground. The defense allowed 369 total yards, including 265 rushing yards.
In last weekend’s game versus Texas State, the Trojans were pummeled 28-7 in the first quarter and eventually went into the locker room with a 31-17 deficit. Troy continued to crawl back however, scoring in every quarter (and giving up points in every quarter) during an eventual overtime road win 48-41. QB Tucker Kilcrease was 30-of-39 for 415 yards and five scores. Tops in rushing was Tray Taylor with two carries for 18 yards, and DJ Epps led the receivers on 10 catches for 148 yards and two touchdowns in the winning comeback effort.
LA-Monroe Warhawks Betting Preview
Over on the Warhawks’ side, they were able to blank St. Francis PA in their opener 29-0, then got steamrolled by Alabama 73-0 in game two. LA-Monroe was able to bounce back with wins over UTEP and Arkansas State in the next pair before falling against Northwestern 42-7 in game five. In that matchup the Warhawks defense coughed up 515 total yards (246 of those being via the rush), 26 first downs and an 11-of-17 success rate on third-down tries. LA-Monroe’s offense didn’t fare so well either, going just 3-of-10 on third downs themselves.
Matched up against Coastal Carolina on Saturday, the Warhawks were in trouble after one half, facing a 16-0 deficit. When the dust settled, LA-Monroe finished with a 23-8 road loss and fell to .500 on the season. QB Aidan Armenta was 14-of-28 for 176 yards, one TD and one pick. Braylon McReynolds carried 14 times for 78 yards as the team’s top rusher, while Jonathan Bibbs caught five balls for 79 yards and a touchdown in the losing effort.

LA-Monroe vs Troy Prediction
I’ll probably just go with Troy. The Trojans are coming off a heart-attack game last weekend, but thankfully they came out on the winning end in overtime versus Texas State. Troy threw for a whopping 415 yards in that one (with no turnovers) gathering 27 first downs and 6.3 yards per play. The 5-of-14 on third-down tries was pretty rough, but Troy hit 3-of-3 on fourth downs. Defensively the Trojans coughed up a ton of production: 574 yards overall and 326 on the ground alongside 7.7 yards per play and 10-of-17 on third downs. The Bobcats’ 10 penalties certainly didn’t hurt, but the Trojans still get credit for a great overtime road victory. That gives Troy consecutive overtime wins in their last pair, scoring a combined 79 points in that time.
As for LA-Monroe, they got pummeled on the ground as well, giving up 276 rushing yards in their road loss to Coastal Carolina last weekend. The Warhawks went an ugly 1-of-13 on third downs and had a couple of interceptions along the way. LA-Monroe has given up a combined 65 points in their last two games (both losses), but cover-wise I think this one’s going to come down to which team does better in the rushing game (and stopping the rushing game on the other side).
