The UMass Minutemen are 0-6 (0-2) this year after they lost to Kent State by a score of 42-6 last week. UMass trailed 21-6 at halftime and was shutout in the second half for the embarrassing loss. The Buffalo Bulls are 3-3 (2-0) this season after they defeated Eastern Michigan in overtime by a score of 31-30 in their last game. Buffalo was tied at 14 at the half and tied at 24 at the end of regulation, but they stopped EMU’s two point conversion for the win in overtime. The Bulls were out gained by a total of 395-387, went 7-15 on third downs, and lost the turnover battle by a total of 1-0 in the game. Ta’Quan Roberson went 19-38 for 272 yards and three touchdowns, while Al-Jay Henderson rushed 16 times for 81 yards. Why the Buffalo Bulls will win

  • Massachusetts has lost each of its last 10 games.
  • Buffalo has won each of its last six games against conference opponents.
  • Buffalo has covered the spread in each of its last six October games as a road favorite.
  • Massachusetts has failed to cover the spread in each of its last five games against non-AP-ranked teams.
  • Massachusetts has lost the first half in 15 of its last 18 games against conference opponents.

Total Points Facts

  • Eight of Buffalo’s last nine games against conference opponents have gone OVER the total points line.
  • Each of Massachusetts’ last four games in October have gone UNDER the total points line.

Matchup/League Facts

  • Massachusetts ranks 136th among FBS teams for points per game this season (9.7).
  • Massachusetts has suffered the equal-most road losses by a margin of 20+ points of any FBS team this season (3).
  • Buffalo has recorded the equal-most home wins by a margin of three points or less of any FBS team this season (1).
  • Four of Buffalo’s six games this season have been decided by a margin of seven points or less – equal-most amongst FBS teams.

UMass vs Buffalo Prediction

Buffalo rolls into this contest undefeated in conference play, but neither win has been very convincing. The Bulls have allowed 58 points in their first two MAC games, but will play a UMass offense that has been awful. The Minutemen have scored 7 points or fewer in four straight games and just lost by 36 points to Kent State. I know we haven’t been super impressed with Buffalo, but I have to fade UMass with how they are playing this year. Take Buffalo to cover on the road here.
