Nevada won their first two games this year versus New Mexico State and Texas State, then hit a losing streak versus Incarnate Word, Iowa, Air Force, Colorado State, Hawaii, San Diego State, San Jose State and Boise State.
In the Fresno State game, Nevada faced a 24-0 deficit going into the break. Nevada scored some cosmetic points in the second during a 41-14 loss. QB Nate Cox finished with 243 yards, two scores and two picks. Toa Taua carried 17 times for 93 yards.
Over on the UNLV side, they went 4-1 with wins over Idaho State, North Texas, Utah State and New Mexico in their first five games. The Rebels then hit a losing streak to San Jose State, Air Force, Notre Dame, San Diego State and Fresno State.
In the Hawaii matchup last weekend, UNLV had a 13-7 lead going into the third quarter. The Rebels gave up 24 points in the second half however, and lost 31-25. QB Doug Brumfield managed 288 yards, one TD and one interception.
Nevada is 5-1 ATS in their last six on grass and 1-6 ATS in their last seven after an ATS loss. The Wolf Pack are 1-6 ATS in their last seven conference games.
Meanwhile, UNLV is 5-2 ATS in the last seven in November and 5-2 ATS in the last seven at home.
PICK: I’m leaning UNLV but not touching this one. The Rebels didn’t play well against Hawaii in the second half of their last outing, eventually totaling 427 yards with 21 first downs and a 4-of-14 rate on third-down tries.
As for Nevada, they’re coming off a pretty rough outing versus Fresno State. The Wolf Pack notched 389 total yards (146 rushing), 16 first downs, eight penalties and three turnovers in a pretty dismal outing. This should be an easier matchup but I don’t think Nevada will cover.
