The Wyoming Cowboys and the UNLV Rebels meet Friday in week 11 college football action from Allegiant Stadium. Wyoming last appeared in a Friday matchup versus Colorado State. The 6-3 Cowboys went on to power out a nine-point win. As for UNLV, they took on New Mexico over the weekend. In that one the Rebels cruised in a blowout to improve to 7-2 overall. Wyoming Cowboys 

The Cowboys managed a 5-3 run over their first eight games this year, but didn’t get off to a great start in October. Wyoming managed 22.9 points per game during that span, posting a tepid 150.9 yards per game through the air with 13 TDs and four picks. The running game fared slightly better with 4.3 yards per play and nine scores in that time. 

Last Friday versus Colorado State, the Cowboys posted 14 points in the third quarter to cap off the scoring in a 24-15 win. Andrew Peasley threw for 140 yards, two scores and a pick. Harrison Waylee led the rush with 128 yards on 29 carries, and AJ Brown caught two balls for 32 yards as the team’s top receiver.

Over on the Rebels’ side, they ended up at 6-2 over their first eight with losses to only Michigan (35-7) and Fresno State (31-24). UNLV’s 34.3 points-per-game average carried the team over that stretch, but they only managed seven passing touchdowns (to six picks). The running game was the key to the Rebels’ success, with 202.9 yards on average and 23 scores. 

Matched up against New Mexico, the Rebels scored double-digit points in each of the first three quarters on the way to a 56-14 win. Quarterback Jayden Maiava managed 247 yards with three passing scores, and Vincent Davis added two more TDs with nine carries for 64 yards. Ricky White also had two receiving scores with eight catches for 165 yards.

I’ll probably stick with UNLV in this one. The Rebels did what they were supposed to do in the big win over New Mexico on Saturday, cruising to 416 total yards (247 passing), 17 first downs, 5-of-8 on third-down tries and zero turnovers in the win. It was a nice bounce-back effort after the Fresno State loss (31-24); UNLV has now posted wins in six of the last seven games. 

As for Wyoming, they put up 334 total yards (140 passing) against Colorado State with 21 first downs but also had 10 penalties in a sloppy game. The Cowboys have been scoring pretty well lately though, with 22 or more points in five of their last six. This one could end up a high total, but UNLV should be in firm control.
