The South Florida Bulls and the UTSA Roadrunners meet Friday in college football action from the Alamodome. South Florida is 5-5 on the year and fresh off a matchup versus Temple over the weekend. In that one the Bulls powered out a victory by four points. As for UTSA, they played Rice in their last outing. The Roadrunners ended up taking a 20-point win to move to 7-3 overall. USF Bulls

South Florida had an up-and-down run over their first nine games this year but scored pretty well during that time. The Bulls averaged 30.2 points per game with 36 total touchdowns, 17 of which (along with seven picks and 258.9 yards per game) came through the air. On the ground South Florida scored 18 touchdowns with a 194.8 yards per game average.

In their latest game versus Temple, the Bulls gave up 13 unanswered points in the fourth quarter but were still able to hang on for a win 27-23. Quarterback EJ Warner posted 280 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions. Darvon Hubbard was the lead rusher with 48 yards, and David Martin-Robinson added 102 yards from seven receptions.

South Florida Bulls Team Facts

  • South Florida has lost each of its last 11 road games in November.
  • The underdog has covered the spread in eight of South Florida’s last nine games.
  • South Florida has lost the first half in five of its last six road games against conference opponents.
  • Each of South Florida’s last six road games against conference opponents have gone OVER the total points line.

UTSA Roadrunners

Over on the Roadrunners’ side, they also scored pretty well in their first nine games this year. UTSA notched 35 total touchdowns with 31.2 points per game on average and had a nice mix between run (17 TDs) and pass (18 TDs; nine picks). The Roadrunners averaged 244.2 yards per game through the air and 7.3 yards per pass in that time.

Matched up against Rice over the weekend, the Roadrunners outscored the Owls 24-7 in the second half to finish off a win 34-14. QB Frank Harris posted a modest 175 yards with one score, while Rocko Griffin (81 yards; TD) and Robert Henry (63 yards; TD) handled the rushing work. Joshua Cephus led the receivers with 53 yards and a touchdown on five catches.

UTSA Roadrunners Team Facts

  • UTSA has won each of its last 17 home games against conference opponents.
  • UTSA has covered the spread in three of its last four home games against conference opponents.
  • UTSA has won the first half in each of its last seven games against conference opponents.
  • Four of UTSA’s last five games against non-AP-ranked teams have gone UNDER the total points line.

Matchup/League Facts

  • UTSA rank 39th among FBS teams for points per game this season (31.5).

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll probably stick with UTSA in this one, but I’m probably also not touching it. The Roadrunners were quite impressive on defense in the Rice win, holding the Owls to just 229 total yards (182 passing) and 2-of-12 on third-down tries. UTSA mustered a middling 182 passing yards themselves however, and only managed four of 12 third-down conversions. Still, the Roadrunners are scoring great during this six-game win streak with 34 or more points in each outing.

As for USF, they faded in the fourth quarter versus Temple and only managed 6-of-17 on third-down tries. Defensively the team was great though, with four takeaways and 2-of-13 allowed on third downs. I like the Bulls to give UTSA a bit of trouble on that side of the ball, but I don’t think they’ll cover in the end.
