The Louisville Cardinals and the Virginia Tech Hokies meet Saturday in college football action from Lane Stadium. Here’s a Virginia Tech vs Louisville prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Virginia Tech vs Louisville pick.
Louisville Cardinals Betting Preview
The Cardinals opened the season on a strong run, taking wins in their first four outings. That quartet of victories came against Eastern Kentucky, James Madison, Bowling Green and Pittsburgh. The Cards took their first loss of the year on October 4 in overtime versus Virginia, but bounced back with a win over Miami in their next outing. In the 24-21 road victory, the Cardinals gave up points in every quarter but held on for the W. The offense went just 5-of-14 on third-down tries but also managed a decent 367 total yards and 21 first downs. Louisville’s defense gave up just 63 yards rushing and 15 first downs on the other side.
In Saturday’s primetime showdown at home versus Boston College, Louisville gave up points in every quarter—but scored in every quarter themselves, including double-digits in two of them. The end result was a 38-24 victory at home for the Cardinals. QB Miller Moss was 15-of-27 for 187 yards, one TD and one pick while also rushing in two scores. Tops on the ground was Isaac Brown with 14 carries for 205 yards and a TD, while Chris Bell hauled in four passes for 49 yards. Caullin Lacy added six grabs for 43 yards and a score in the win as well.
Virginia Tech Hokies Betting Preview
Over on the Virginia Tech side, they hit the skids in their first three games of the year with a trio of losses. Those defeats came courtesy of South Carolina, Vanderbilt and Old Dominion. The Hokies got their first win of the year over Wofford on September 20, then beat NC State in the next outing before a seven-point loss to Wake Forest. In the road matchup with a tough Georgia Tech team on October 11, Virginia Tech managed 367 total yards and 6.7 yards per play but went a horrid 0-for-8 on third-down tries alongside 10 penalties for 82 yards.
Matched up against California at home last Friday, the Hokies fought back from a 10-point halftime deficit to force overtime. After two extra periods Virginia Tech ended up with a 42-34 victory. QB Kyron Drones logged 119 yards, three scores and a pick on 9-of-18 passing and also had two rush scores with his 21 carries for 137 yards. Marcellous Hawkins carried 21 times for 167 yards, and Takye Heath had four catches for 64 yards and two scores of his own.

Virginia Tech vs Louisville Prediction
I’ll take a stab on Virginia Tech here. The Hokies were terrors on the ground versus a pretty good Cal team last Friday, racking up 357 rush yards, 6.3 yards per play, 24 first downs and 8-of-16 on third-down tries. the defense held the Bears to just 39 rush yards and 4.9 yards per play on the other side. It was a sloppy overall game though, with Virginia Tech committing 10 of the total 19 penalties. The Hokies are scoring pretty well these days, with 20 or more points in seven straight outings.
As for Louisville, they played a pretty good game versus a struggling Boston College team last weekend but there’s plenty to clean up. The Cardinals mustered just 16 first downs while going only 3-of-11 on third-down conversions alongside three turnovers (two fumbles). The defense helped keep things moving with three takeaways, though. Louisville is scoring at a great clip this year: they’ve posted at least 24 points in every game so far. It wouldn’t be surprising to see a fairly high total here, but in the end I think the Hokies can eke into a cover.
