The Wake Forest Demon Deacons and the Virginia Tech Hokies meet Saturday in college football action from Lane Stadium. Here’s a Virginia Tech vs Wake Forest prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Virginia Tech vs Wake Forest pick.

Wake Forest Demon Deacons Betting Preview

The Demon Deacons have soldiered through four games so far this year, with mixed results along the way. Wake Forest eked past Kennesaw State 10-9 in their opener, then powered out a much more convincing victory over Western Carolina 42-10 in their second outing of the season. Game three versus NC State was Wake Forest’s first loss, as they’d fall 34-24 at home. The Deacons were up 24-17 by the break but then got outscored 17-0 in the second half. Wake Forest’s defense gave up 406 total yards (205 rushing) in the loss with 5.3 yards per play, 24 first downs and 7-of-18 on third-down tries. The Deacons offense had a couple of turnovers and could only muster 12 first downs along the way.

In their game versus Georgia Tech last weekend, the Deacons put up a great fight but eventually fell just short. Wake forest held a 17-3 halftime lead and eventually fell in overtime 30-29. QB Robby Ashford logged a 13-of-28 line for 219 yards and also rushed 10 times for 82 yards and a score. Demond Claiborne topped the runners on 21 totes for 119 yards and two touchdowns, while Micah Mays caught two balls for a team-high 65 receiving yards.

Virginia Tech Hokies Betting Preview

Over on the Virginia Tech side, they’ve got five games in the books so far. The Hokies hit the skids in their first three outings though, falling to South Carolina 24-11, Vanderbilt 44-20 and Old Dominion 45-26 in their first three games—the latter two of those both being at home. Virginia Tech was able to get their first win of the year in game four versus Wofford though, bagging points in every quarter en route to a 38-6 blowout victory. The Hokies defense did well in that one, holding the Terriers to just 141 total yards (142 passing), 2.8 yards per play and eight first downs. The offense generated 461 yards (307 passing) and 6.5 yards per play on the other side along with 28 first downs.

Matched up against NC State on Saturday, the Hokies went into the final quarter with a 20-14 lead and were able to hold on for a 23-21 win in the end. QB Kyron Drones put up a 20-of-34 line for 177 yards and a couple of touchdowns. Tops in rushing was Terion Stewart with 15 totes for 174 yards, and Ayden Greene led the receivers with three catches for 44 yards.

Virginia Tech vs Wake Forest Prediction

I’ll likely stay with Wake Forest. The Deacons had Georgia Tech on the ropes early on Saturday but couldn’t maintain pace well enough to finish them off. Wake ended up tallying 443 yards total (210 rushing) with 6.2 yards per play, 20 first downs, 9-of-19 on third-down tries and zero turnovers. On the other side the Deacons gave up 411 yards (248 passing) with 4.8 yards per play, 27 first downs and 7-of-16 on third-down conversions. Wake Forest gave up just 19 combined points in their first two games (both wins) and since then they’ve given up 64 combined in two games (both losses). The competition has taken a significant uptick in that time, but still.

As for Virginia Tech, their run game (229 yards) and defense (299 yards allowed) were able to keep NC State in check last weekend in a pretty solid road win. The Hokies have looked much better over the last couple of outings, but I’d imagine they’ll still give up quite a bit of production to Wake Forest this weekend.
