Coastal Carolina Chanticleers Betting Preview
The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers won six games last year and enter the third year under coach Tim Beck. Coastal Carolina has made a bowl appearance in each of the last five years.
Coastal Carolina has to find a reliable quarterback, but UMASS transfer Jalen John is coming off a season where he rushed for nearly 600 yards and 5 touchdowns. Receivers Jameson Tucker, Bryson Graves, and Cameron Wright are also back for another season after combining for 10 touchdowns. There’s talent on this Coastal Carolina offense, it’s just a matter of finding a quarterback to make use of the weapons. MJ Morris transfers from Maryland and Emmett Brown transfers from San Jose State.
Defensively, Shane Bruce returns after 75 tackles and 1 interception, while Xamarion Gordon had 36 tackles and 1 interception. That’s just two of Coastal Carolina’s top-eight tacklers from last season returning. Coastal Carolina also has a new defensive coordinator in Jeremiah Johnson. Needless to say, it’s going to be a work in progress for Coastal Carolina on this side of the ball.
Virginia Cavaliers Betting Preview
The Virginia Cavaliers won five games last season and enter the fifth year under coach Tony Elliott. Virginia hasn’t made a bowl trip since the 2019 season.
North Texas transfer Chandler Morris takes over at quarterback, and he has 6,200 yards and 47 touchdowns for his career. Xavier Brown rushed for nearly 500 yards last season, and Trell Harris averaged nearly 15 yards per catch. Jahmal Edrine transfers from Purdue and Jayden Thomas transfers from Notre Dame to provide depth at the receiver position. Virginia has talent on the offensive side of the ball and could be fun to watch.
Defensively, Kam Robinson returns after 64 tackles and 1 interception, while Jam Jackson had 58 tackles and 6 pass deflections. Trey McDonald had 57 tackles and 1 interception, and Antonio Clary had 48 tackles and 3 pass deflections. Mitchell Melton comes over from Ohio State and Hunter Osborne transfers from Alabama. There’s experience on the defensive side for Virginia and could lead to a more consistent showing.

Virginia vs Coastal Carolina Prediction
Coastal Carolina has questions at quarterback and has a new defense that will be left to figure it out on the road. Virginia is as talented as it’s been in a while on both sides of the ball, and has the same coaching staff in place to lead the way. I’m not sure Virginia is ready to push for a conference title in the ACC, but this is a bowl team on paper. Virginia has covered six of its last seven games as a double-digit favorite. I like Virginia as a sneaky contender in the ACC this season. I’ll lay the chalk.
