Delaware Blue Hens Betting Preview
This year the Hens had a pretty easy opener matchup versus Merrimack. Delaware didn’t have too much trouble in that one, scoring 14 points in both the second and third quarters in a 42-7 blowout win. As for game two, that one was tougher. The Hens were up by three points at halftime on Vanderbilt, then gave up 21 unanswered points in a 35-26 loss in the end.
The Hens took on Coastal Carolina in their third game of the year. In that one Delaware held a slim 15-14 lead going into the fourth quarter. The Hens would add an insurance touchdown in that frame, eventually winning 22-14 in the end. QB Nick Minicucci was 24-of-32 for 302 yards and two scores. Both of those TDs went to Sean Wilson, who caught nine balls for 185 yards.
Virginia Cavaliers Betting Preview
Over on the Cavs’ side, they took on NC State in their opener this season. Virginia took a 17-0 lead into the second half and eventually scored in every quarter during a 34-8 win. In game two versus Norfolk State, Virginia took another dominant victory. The Cavaliers were up 28-3 by the end of the first half and scored points in every quarter as well on the way to a 59-3 result.
Matched up against West Virginia last weekend, the Cavs were in trouble heading into the fourth quarter. Virginia was trailing 28-21 at that point and didn’t end up getting any closer in an eventual 38-27 loss on their home turf. QB Beau Pribula was 21-of-33 for 197 yards and a pair of scores. Jekail Middlebrook carried 17 times for 75 yards and a touchdown to lead the rush.

Virginia vs Delaware Prediction
I’m going with Virginia. The Cavs need a good bounce-back effort after that rough loss last weekend and this is a good spot to get it. Virginia ended up surrendering 437 yards (247 rushing) in the loss to WVU, along with 21 first downs, 6.4 yards per play and 7-of-15 on third downs. The offense wasn’t terrible (354 total yards; 18 first downs) but couldn’t keep up.
As for Delaware, they eked past Coastal Carolina thanks to a pretty timely defensive effort. That unit gave up 385 yards (250 passing), 6.3 yards and 21 first downs but did come up with a couple of fumble recoveries and kept the Chanticleers off the scoreboard when it mattered. Playing the Cavs on the road will be another matter however, especially with Virginia needing a statement game.
