The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns and Eastern Michigan Eagles square off Saturday in week 2 college football action from Cajun Field. Eastern Michigan is fresh off their first game of the year, a win over Eastern Kentucky. As for Louisiana, they played Southeastern Louisiana in their first outing. In that one the Cajuns took a 14-point win. Check back all season long for free college football picks at Sports Chat Place.

Eastern Michigan managed a pretty average run last year, finishing 7-6 overall and 4-4 in Mid-American Conference play. The Eagles landed just one spot out of the basement in the West Division but still made the LendingTree Bowl. That game ended up a 56-20 loss to Liberty, though.

In their 2022 opener versus Eastern Kentucky, the Eagles scored 14 points in each of the final three quarters in a 42-34 win. QB Taylor Powell finished with 271 yards, three scores and a pick. Samson Evans led the rush with 89 yards and two touchdowns off 15 carries.

Over on the Louisiana side, they’re coming off a pretty epic run in 2021. The Cajuns went 13-1 overall and 8-0 in Sun Belt play for a West Division championship. Louisiana beat App State in the conference championship game and then took out Marshall in the New Orleans Bowl.

Last weekend versus SE Louisiana, the Cajuns jumped out to a 17-0 halftime lead and cruised to the 24-7 win. QB Chandler Fields finished on 173 yards and two scores, while Terrence Williams led the rush with 61 yards. Johnny Lumpkin caught five balls for 72 yards and two scores as well.

PICK: I’m probably staying with Louisiana. The Cajuns put together a pretty solid all-around game in their opener versus SE Louisiana with 18 first downs, 5.4 yards per play and 374 total yards. Louisiana also notched just four penalties, four punts and zero turnovers.
As for Eastern Michigan, they put up some solid offensive numbers in their opener, but they were also pretty permissive with 492 yards, 29 first downs and a 12-of-18 rate on third-down tries allowed. Louisiana should have some opportunities if they can get the offense going.
