Syracuse put up a pretty rough campaign last year. The Orange went a tepid 5-7 overall and just 2-6 in Atlantic Coast Conference play. That would leave Syracuse in second-to-last place in the Atlantic Division and out of a bowl game spot.

In their 2022 opener versus Louisville, the Orange scored 14 in the final quarter to cap off a 31-7 win. Garrett Shrader posted 237 pass yards and two touchdowns. Sean Tucker led the rush with 98 yards and a score, while also topping the receivers with 85 yards and another TD.

Over on the UConn side, they played Utah State in their 2022 opener. The Huskies had some trouble after a 14-0 first-quarter lead and eventually lost 31-20. QB Zion Turner managed 109 yards with one TD and two picks, while Nathan Carter rushed 20 times for 190 yards.

In game two versus Central CT State, the Huskies outscored the Devils 21-0 in the second half during a 28-3 win. QB Zion Turner finished on 172 yards, two scores and a pick. Nathan Carter added 123 yards and a TD on 23 carries.

PICK: I’m probably staying with Syracuse. The Orange had a nice effort versus Louisville in their opener, with 449 total yards, 23 first downs and 6.8 yards per play. Syracuse took care of the ball with zero turnovers, but they also committed a whopping 18 penalties for 107 yards.

As for UConn, they didn’t have too much trouble versus Central CT State. The Huskies had 446 total yards, 27 first downs and a nice 14-of-19 on third-down tries. UConn coughed up three turnovers and eight penalties however, so it was far from perfect.
