The Wisconsin Badgers and New Mexico State Aggies clash Saturday in week 3 college football action from Camp Randall Stadium.
The New Mexico State Aggies will look to bounce back from a 20-13 loss to UTEP last time out. Gavin Frakes has thrown for 197 yards, a touchdown and 3 interceptions on 48% passing while Diego Pavia’s thrown for 185 yards and 3 picks on 40% passing while also rushing for 119 yards and a pair of scores. Justice Powers leads NMSU’s receiving group with 108 receiving yards as well this season. On defense, Bryce Jackson has a team-high 22 total tackles and 15 solo tackles while Chris Ojoh has 21 total tackles with 14 solo tackles. Lazarus Williams also has a pair of sacks for the Aggie defense this season.
The Wisconsin Badgers will look to rebound from a 17-14 loss to Washington State in their last game. Graham Mertz has thrown for 446 yards, 3 touchdowns and an interception on 68.1% passing while Braelon Allen’s rushed for 246 yards and a pair of touchdowns this season. Chez Mellusi and Julius Davis have combined for 129 rushing yards while Chimere Dike has 137 receiving yards and a touchdown. Maema Njongmeta has a team-high 16 total tackles including 11 solo tackles while Nick Herbig has 3 sacks and John Torchio has a sack and an interception.
New Mexico State is 1-5 ATS in their last 6 non-conference games and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games overall while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 non-conference games. Wisconsin is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games overall.
I get the reasoning for backing a sizeable underdog, but the Aggies haven’t been very good, even with the new coaching staff. On the other side, the Badgers are the better team, but they haven’t been a team that necessarily blows other teams away, and they usually rely on solid defense. I wouldn’t be surprised if this was a 35-0 or 38-0 kind of game, so give me the under here.
