The Mississippi State Bulldogs and Bowling Green Falcons do battle Saturday in week 4 college football action from Davis Wade Stadium. Bowling Green is fresh off a matchup versus Marshall. In that one, the Falcons posted a gutsy overtime win. As for the Bulldogs, they played LSU in their last game. Mississippi State ended up losing by 15 points. Bowling Green had an early lead on UCLA in their 2022 opener, but eventually fell 45-17 after failing to score in the second half. In game two the Falcons were much closer against Eastern Kentucky. That one turned into a tough overtime loss 59-57, however.

In game three versus Marshall, Bowling Green came back from an early 14-point deficit to win 34-31 in overtime. QB Matt McDonald managed 282 yards and four touchdowns, while PaSean Wimberly led the rush with five carries for 35 yards. Odieu Hiliare had four catches for 79 yards and two scores as well.

Over on the Mississippi State side, they were able to score 28 points in the first half of their opener versus Memphis, causing to a 49-23 win. In the second outing of the year, the Bulldogs took on Arizona. That one was a big win as well; a 39-17 result.

Matched up against LSU back on Saturday, the Bulldogs had a 16-13 lead going into the fourth quarter but then coughed up another 21 points for a 31-16 loss. Will Rogers finished with 214 yards, one TD and a pick. Rara Thomas caught the score among his four grabs for 67 yards.

PICK: I’m staying with Mississippi State, but the line is probably too thick to mess with. The Bulldogs were outplayed by a pretty good LSU team in most facets during their last outing, but they were still in a winning position late. Mississippi State posted a tepid 289 total yards with 15 first downs and two turnovers, so they’ve got plenty to work on this week.

As for Bowling Green, they’ll be riding high on their OT win for a while. The Falcons were out-gunned by Marshall in most facets but still found a way to win. I don’t think lightning will strike twice in a row however, so I’m more comfortable with the Bulldogs on a cover.
