Week 5: Appalachian State vs The Citadel 10/1/22 College Football Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Appalachian State Mountaineers and Citadel Bulldogs square off Saturday in week 5 college football action from Kidd-Brewer Stadium.

The Citadel Bulldogs will look to rebound after a 17-0 loss to Mercer in their last game. Peyton Derrick threw for 59 yards on 7 of 17 passing while Sam Llewellyn had 22 rushing yards on 5 carries to lead the Bulldogs. Tyler Cherry had a team-high pair of receptions for 19 yards as well in the victory. Destin Mack and Dominick Poole also had a fumble recovery respectively in the loss.

The Appalachian State Mountaineers will try to bounce back from a 32-28 loss to James Madison in their last game. Chase Brice has thrown for 1,014 yards, 11 touchdowns and 2 interceptions on 61.7% passing while Camerun Peoples has a team-high 264 rushing yards and Daetrich Harrington and Nate Noel have combined for 286 rushing yards this season. Christan Horn has a team-high 212 receiving yards while Henry Pearson, Dashaun Davis and Kaedin Robinson each have 100+ receiving yards this season for App State’s receiving group. On defense, Nick Ross  and Andrew Parker each have a team-high 25 total tackles while Nick Hampton has 5 sacks and Jalen McLeod has a pair of sacks.

The Citadel is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 games following a loss. Appalachian State is 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games overall and 0-5 ATS in their last 5 home games while the under is 7-3 in their last 10 October games.

I get that this is a big number to lay with App State, but the Citadel historically has been a doormat for all kinds of FBS schools, schools that have far less potency than what the Mountaineers are bringing to the table here. Look for App State to use this as a perfect tune up opportunity with conference play on the horizon. Give me App State in a rout.
