The Missouri State Bears and the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers meet Thursday in college football action from Houchens Industries-LT Smith Stadium in Bowling Green. Here’s a Western Kentucky vs Missouri State prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Western Kentucky vs Missouri State pick.
Missouri State Bears Betting Preview
The Bears have four games in the bag so far this year. First was a tough matchup versus Texas A&M on September 5. Missouri State lost that one big, falling in a blowout-shutout 50-0. In game two versus Lindenwood, the Bears were on the other side of a blowout, winning 48-14. In the Marshall game, Missouri State fell back to 1-2 with a 30-24 loss at home.
In the SMU game back on September 26, the Bears jumped out to a nice lead 10-0 after one quarter. Missouri State gave up three unanswered TDs over the next couple of quarters though, and when the dust settled the Bears had a 34-24 loss. QB Skyler Locklear was 15-of-19 for 102 yards and a TD while Jambres Dubar rushed seven times for 76 yards as the top rusher.
Western Kentucky Hilltoppers Betting Preview
Over on the Western Kentucky side, they have five games in the can so far this season. The Hilltoppers took a blowout loss 49-14 to Nevada in their opener, then had the unenviable task of facing Georgia and Indiana on the road over the next two. Those were both losses, 70-20 and 38-0 respectively. WKU finally got a win on September 26 versus Mercyhurst 52-7, though.
Last Thursday versus New Mexico State, the Hilltoppers fell back into the loss column. Western Kentucky ended up taking a defeat on the road by a score of 34-13. QB Rodney Tisdale was 29-of-40 for 314 yards and an interception. Topping the rush was Brock Glenn with seven carries for 23 yards and a TD, while Jonathan Stafford had 10 catches for 108 yards.

Western Kentucky vs Missouri State Prediction
I’ll lean toward Missouri State. Probably not touching this one though. The Bears did pretty well against a good SMU team on the scoreboard in their last outing but the stats weren’t all that great. Missouri State put up just 14 first downs with a 4-of-16 success rate on third-down tries while gaining a tepid 239 yards on offense. The defense gave up 28 first downs and 592 total yards on the other side. The Bears’ cause was helped out by the Mustangs’ 12 penalties for 111 yards.
As for WKU, they had their own penalty troubles last Thursday versus New Mexico State, bagging 11 flags for 84 yards. Otherwise the team did fairly well statistically with 357 total yards. On defense the Hilltoppers gave up 352 yards and held the Aggies to just 2-of-12 on third downs. This weekend’s matchup should be fairly competitive if both teams play well.
