The Miami-Ohio RedHawks and the Wisconsin Badgers meet in week 1 college football action from Camp Randall Stadium on Thursday. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this game. Here’s a Miami-Ohio vs. Wisconsin prediction.
Miami-Ohio Team Preview
The Miami-Ohio RedHawks come into the 2025 season looking to add onto another solid campaign after going 9-5 in 2024, including 7-1 in MAC conference play. The RedHawks made it to the MAC title game where they would get blitzed by Ohio 38-3. The RedHawks would head to the Arizona Bowl, where they’d knock off Colorado State 43-17. Miami-Ohio had issues with QB consistency the last couple of seasons, but hopefully that’s in the past with a familiar face to MAC fans in Dequan Finn, who comes in after a stint at Baylor following his run at Toledo. The RedHawks have a lot of replacing to do elsewhere, with a lot of top guys from 2024 gone but Jordan Brunson’s back after recording 300 rushing yards and 4 TDs and the receiving corps has pieces returning as well. On defense, Miami-Ohio’s secondary was the strength and has two of their top three tackles back in Silas Walters and Eli Blakey.
Why the Miami (OH) RedHawks will win
- Miami (OH) has won eight of its last nine games.
- Wisconsin has lost each of its last five games.
- Wisconsin has failed to cover the spread in 10 of its last 11 home games against non-AP-ranked teams.
- Miami (OH) has covered the spread in three of its last four games.
Wisconsin Team Preview
The Wisconsin Badgers will be hoping to shake off a disastrous 2024 season where Wisconsin finished 5-7 overall, including a 3-6 mark in Big Ten conference play, for their first losing season in the program since 2001. The Badgers have had a QB carousel the last two years, but hope that Billy Edwards Jr. gives them some stability after transferring within the Big Ten from Maryland. Wisconsin could also use some better injury luck at RB after losing Chez Mellusi to a horrific injury and Tawee Walker now gone. The tandem of Darrion Dupree and Cade Yacamelli will have to take over and the receiving corps has some solid pieces including top receiver Vinny Anthony II who averaged over 17 yards per catch. On defense, there’s still a lot of moving parts, but Charles Perkins and Corey Walker transfer in to bolster the D-Line and Christian Alliegro will be tasked with leading the linebackers after leading Wisky with three sacks last season.
Why the Wisconsin Badgers will win
- The favorite has won each of Wisconsin’s last eight games at Camp Randall Stadium.
- Miami (OH) has lost eight of its last nine season openers.
- Miami (OH) has failed to cover the spread in seven of its last eight road openers.
- Wisconsin has covered the spread in each of its last four games as a home favorite against teams from Ohio.
Total Points Facts
- Five of Miami (OH)’s last six games against non-conference opponents have gone UNDER the total points line.
- Five of Wisconsin’s last six games against teams from Ohio have gone UNDER the total points line.
Miami-Ohio vs. Wisconsin Prediction
I’m on the RedHawks and the points here. I get why Wisconsin’s heavily favored, but the Badgers aren’t a team I’m running to the window to bet right now just given that I don’t think this Badger team is as good as this line would indicate. The RedHawks could very well be the team to beat in the MAC this year with the addition of Dequan Finn at QB. I think Miami-Ohio is fully capable of keeping this one within two scores so give me the RedHawks and the points here.
