Draftkings picks and predictions for tonight's Mercury vs. Aces matchup

Phoenix Mercury vs. Las Vegas Aces
May 21, 2024 10:00 pm EDT

The WNBA presents a matchup between the Phoenix Mercury and Las Vegas Aces. Let’s take a look at this game from a Draftkings perspective.

Before we dive into the Phoenix Mercury vs. Las Vegas Aces game let’s review the rules for the Draftkings single game showdown contest.

Draftkings Single Game Showdown Contest Rules

You have $50,000 to utilize on five players from either team. However, one of those players will be designated as your team captain. The captain accumulates 1.5 times the standard fantasy points. Additionally, the captain is 1.5 times the standard cost of the flex position.

The remaining four players in your lineup will receive the standard fantasy points. Having stated that, it is highly important for you to identify the correct player for your captain position if you hope to win a large field DFS GPP (guaranteed prize pool) showdown contest.

If you have additional questions regarding the rules for the single game showdown contest, I recommend that you check out the Draftkings website for more details.

*I recommend that all readers review the starting lineups for both teams prior to setting your DFS lineup for this one game slate

Here are my Draftkings picks for this evening’s Phoenix Mercury vs. Las Vegas Aces matchup.

Draftkings Picks

Captain-A’ja Wilson $10,400

Talented Las Vegas center A’ja Wilson has been the leader in the paint that the Las Vegas Aces have needed to win games this season. Let’s take a quick look at Wilson’s recent game data to better shed light on my previous statement.

In the Las Vegas Aces first two games played in the 2024 regular season, A’ja Wilson averaged a whopping 26 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, and 2.5 blocks a game. It has to be said, those are some outstanding fantasy numbers from the Las Vegas Aces center.

Looking closer at the data just presented, in the Las Vegas Aces first two games played this season, A’ja Wilson is averaging 54.9 Draftkings points a game.

More recently, in the Las Vegas Aces 89-82 win over the Los Angeles Sparks three days ago, A’ja Wilson posted some quality DFS numbers. Let me be more specific. A’ja Wilson accumulated 22 points, 10 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 blocks, and 3 steals in the Las Vegas Aces win over the Los Angeles Sparks.

If you hope to win a large field GPP (guaranteed prize pool) Draftkings contest selecting the correct captain is of the highest importance. Having stated that, I think that Las Vegas Aces center A’ja Wilson is a great play at captain for this one game DFS slate.

Flex Plays

Kahleah Copper $7,600

Phoenix guard Kahleah Copper has been one of the few bright spots for a Phoenix Mercury team that has struggled to start the 2024 campaign.

In the first two games that the Phoenix Mercury have played this season, Kahleah Copper has averaged 28.5 points, 5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists a game.

It is also important to note that these teams played the first game of the 2024 season seven days ago. In that game, Phoenix Mercury guard Kaleah Copper posted an impressive 30 points, 13 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal, and 3 blocks in the Phoenix Mercury’s 89-80 loss to the Las Vegas Aces last week.

For the reasons just noted, I am rolling with Phoenix Mercury guard Kahleah Copper as a flex play for this one game Draftkings slate.

Additional flex plays I like to play well (Draftkings price noted): Jackie Young $9,400: Kelsey Plum $8,600: Kiah Stokes $5,200: Katie Martin $4,000: Rebecca Allen $6,400.
