Atlanta Braves vs. Boston Red Sox
May 17, 2025 7:15 pm EDT

Major League Baseball presents Draftkings baseball fans with an interleague matchup featuring the Atlanta Braves and the Boston Red Sox. Let’s take a look at this MLB game from a DFS perspective.

Before we dive into the Atlanta Braves vs. Boston Red Sox game let’s review the rules for the Draftkings MLB single game showdown contest.

Draftkings Single Game Showdown Contest Rules

You have $50,000 to utilize on five players from either team. However, one of those players will be designated as your team captain. The captain accumulates 1.5 times the standard fantasy points. Additionally, the captain is 1.5 times the standard cost of the flex position.

The remaining four players in your lineup will receive the standard fantasy points. Having stated that, it is highly important for you to identify the correct player for your captain position if you hope to win a large field DFS GPP (guaranteed prize pool) showdown contest.

If you have additional questions regarding the rules for the single game showdown contest, I recommend that you check out the Draftkings website for more details.

*I recommend that all readers review the starting lineups for both teams prior to setting your DFS lineup for this one game slate.

Here are my Draftkings picks for tonight’s Atlanta Braves vs. Boston Red Sox matchup.

Draftkings MLB Showdown Picks

Captain-Grant Holmes, Starting Pitcher, Atlanta Braves $10,600

On Saturday night, Major League Baseball presents the second game of a three-game interleague series featuring the Atlanta Braves and the Boston Red Sox.

How are these two teams playing entering tonight’s MLB game? The Atlanta Braves arrive at the second game of this three-game series with the Boston Red Sox playing good baseball. The Braves have won four of the team’s last five games played in the 2025 MLB regular season, including a 5-2 victory over the Washington Nationals two days ago.

In direct contrast to the Atlanta Braves, the Boston Red Sox are playing below average baseball entering tonight’s interleague contest. More specifically, the Red Sox have lost five of the team’s last seven games played this season, including a 2-1 loss to the Kansas City Royals last week.

Now that we have identified how both of these teams are currently playing let’s turn our attention to this evening’s contest. Starting pitcher Grant Holmes has been a solid performer for the Atlanta Braves starting pitching rotation this season. Having stated that, how has the veteran pitcher performed from a statistical perspective? Let’s review Holme’s relevant game data from the 2025 MLB regular season to answer that question.

In the nine games that starting pitcher Grant Holmes has made for Atlanta Braves this season, Holmes has compiled a 2-3 (won-loss record), a 4.58 ERA (Earned Run Average) and a 1.25 WHIP (Walks and Hits per Inning Pitched) in 2025. Additionally, Holmes has amassed 44 strikeouts while allowing 21 walks in 45.2 innings pitched this season.

More recently, in the Los Angeles Dodgers 2-1 victory over the Atlanta Braves earlier this month, Braves starting pitcher Grant Holmes pitched exceptionally well.  Holmes pitched six quality innings while scattering four hits and two walks in the Dodgers victory over the Braves. It should also be mentioned that in the Dodgers win over Braves, Holmes accumulated a massive 23.9 Draftkings points.

In my view, Grant Holmes is the most likely player to post the most Draftkings points in tonight’s MLB game. With that said, I am backing Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Grant Holmes at the captain position for this one game MLB DFS slate.

Flex plays I like to play well in this MLB regular season contest (Draftkings price noted): Lucas Giolito, Starting Pitcher (Boston Red Sox) $11,000: Jarren Duran, Outfielder (Boston Red Sox) $9,200: Sean Murphy, Catcher (Atlanta Braves) $7,400.
