Draftkings MLB DFS Picks: Giants vs. Padres 8/18/25

San Francisco Giants vs. San Diego Padres
August 18, 2025 9:40 pm EDT

Major League Baseball presents Draftkings baseball fans with a National League matchup featuring the San Francisco Giants and the San Diego Padres. Let’s take a look at this MLB game from a DFS perspective.

Before we dive into the San Francisco Giants vs. San Diego Padres game let’s review the rules for the Draftkings MLB single game showdown contest.

Draftkings Single Game Showdown Contest Rules

You have $50,000 to utilize on five players from either team. However, one of those players will be designated as your team captain. The captain accumulates 1.5 times the standard fantasy points. Additionally, the captain is 1.5 times the standard cost of the flex position.

The remaining four players in your lineup will receive the standard fantasy points. Having stated that, it is highly important for you to identify the correct player for your captain position if you hope to win a large field DFS GPP (guaranteed prize pool) showdown contest.

If you have additional questions regarding the rules for the single game showdown contest, I recommend that you check out the Draftkings website for more details.

*I recommend that all readers review the starting lineups for both teams prior to setting your DFS lineup for this one game slate.

Here are my Draftkings picks for tonight’s Giants vs. Padres matchup.

Draftkings MLB DFS Picks

Captain-Robbie Ray, Starting Pitcher, San Francisco Giants $12,400

Later today, Major League Baseball presents the opening game of a four-game National League series featuring the San Francisco Giants and the San Diego Padres.

How are these two teams playing entering tonight’s MLB game? The San Francisco Giants arrive at the first game of this four game National league series with the San Diego Padres playing below average baseball. The San Francisco Giants have lost seven of the team’s last eight games played in the 2025 MLB regular season, including an embarrassing 11-1 loss to the San Diego Padres last week.

Similar to the San Francisco Giants, the San Diego Padres are playing subpar baseball entering this evening’s game. More specifically, the Padres have lost three of the team’s last four games played this season, including a 6-0 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers two days ago.

Now that we have determined how both of these teams are currently playing let’s shift our attention to tonight’s contest. Starting pitcher Robbie Ray has been a standout performer for the San Francisco Giants starting pitching rotation this season. With that said, how has Ray performed from a statistical standpoint in 2025? Let’s review the veteran hurler’s relevant game data from the 2025 MLB regular season to answer that question.

Through 25 starts made this season, San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Robbie Ray has amassed a rather impressive 9-6 (win-loss record), a 2.98 ERA (Earned Run Average) and a 1.14 WHIP (Walks and Hits per Inning Pitched) which ranks 19th in MLB. It should also be noted that Robbie Ray has tallied a massive 152 strikeouts (11th in MLB) while allowing 56 walks in 148 innings pitched this season.

More recently, in the San Francisco Giants 9-1 win over the New York Yankees last month, Giants starting pitcher Robbie Ray pitched exceptionally well. Let me be more specific. Ray pitched five innings while scattering two hits and allowing four walks in the San Francisco Giants defeat of the Yankees.

In my view, Robbie Ray is the most likely player to post the most Draftkings points in tonight’s MLB regular season game. Having stated that, I am backing San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Robbie Ray at the captain position for this one game MLB DFS slate.

Flex plays I like to play well in this MLB regular season contest (Draftkings price noted): Nestor Cortes, Starting Pitcher (San Diego Padres) $10,400: Jung Hoo Lee, Outfielder (San Francisco Giants) $6,400.
