Cleveland Guardians vs. New York Mets
August 6, 2025 1:10 pm EDT

Major League Baseball presents Draftkings baseball fans with an interleague matchup featuring the Cleveland Guardians and the New York Mets. Let’s take a look at this MLB game from a DFS perspective.

Before we dive into the Cleveland Guardians vs. New York Mets game let’s review the rules for the Draftkings MLB single game showdown contest.

Draftkings Single Game Showdown Contest Rules

You have $50,000 to utilize on five players from either team. However, one of those players will be designated as your team captain. The captain accumulates 1.5 times the standard fantasy points. Additionally, the captain is 1.5 times the standard cost of the flex position.

The remaining four players in your lineup will receive the standard fantasy points. Having stated that, it is highly important for you to identify the correct player for your captain position if you hope to win a large field DFS GPP (guaranteed prize pool) showdown contest.

If you have additional questions regarding the rules for the single game showdown contest, I recommend that you check out the Draftkings website for more details.

*I recommend that all readers review the starting lineups for both teams prior to setting your DFS lineup for this one game slate.

Here are my Draftkings picks for today’s Guardians vs. Mets matchup.

Draftkings MLB DFS Picks

Captain-David Peterson, Starting Pitcher, New York Mets $11,600

On Friday night, Major League Baseball presents the final game of a three-game interleague series featuring the Cleveland Guardians vs. New York Mets.

How are these two teams playing entering this afternoon’s MLB game? The New York Mets arrive at the third game of this three-game series with the Cleveland Guardians playing below average baseball. More specifically, the Mets have lost six of the team’s last seven games played in the 2025 MLB regular season, including a 12-4 loss to the San Francisco Giants three days ago.

Conversely, the Cleveland Guardians are currently playing good baseball entering today’s game. The Guardians have won six of the team’s last seven games played in the 2025 MLB regular season, including a 3-2 victory over the New York Mets last week.

Now that we have identified how both of these teams are currently playing let’s shift our focus to this afternoon’s interleague game. Starting pitcher David Peterson has certainly been a standout performer for the New York Mets this season. With that said, how has Peterson performed from a statistical standpoint? Let’s review the veteran pitcher’s relevant game data from the 2025 MLB regular season to answer that question.

In 21 starts made this season, New York Mets starting pitcher David Peterson has compiled a 7-4 (win-loss record), a 2.83 ERA (Earned Run Average) and a 1.24 WHIP (Walks and Hits per Inning Pitched). It should also be noted that Peterson has amassed 105 strikeouts while allowing 43 walks in 127 innings pitched in 2025.

More recently, in the New York Mets 5-0 victory over the Washington Nationals earlier this season, Mets starting pitcher David Peterson pitched exceptionally well. Peterson pitched nine quality innings while scattering six hits and no walks in the Mets defeat of the Nationals. It should also be noted that Peterson struck out six Nationals batters in the Mets win over Washington.

In my view, David Peterson is the most likely player to post the most Draftkings points in this MLB regular season game. Having stated that, I am backing New York Mets starting pitcher David Peterson the captain position for this one game MLB DFS slate.

Flex plays I like to play well in this MLB regular season contest (Draftkings price noted): Gavin Williams, Starting Pitcher (Cleveland Guardians) $10,400: Jose Ramirez, Third Baseman (Cleveland Guardians) $9,600: Jeff McNeil, Second Baseman (New York Mets) $5,400.
