The CFL presents a matchup between the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and the Calgary Stampeders. Let’s take a look at this game from a Draftkings perspective.

Prior to discussing my Draftkings picks for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats vs. Calgary Stampeders game, let’s review an important note regarding the rules and scoring for the single game showdown contests.

For those readers who are not aware, the rules and scoring for DraftKings single game showdown contests are vastly different than the traditional classic contests offered by the platform.

If you need to review the specific rules for the single game showdown contests feel free to check out the Draftkings website.

*I recommend that all readers review the starting lineups for both teams prior to setting your DFS lineup for this one game slate. Remember, once lineups lock you cannot swap players.

Here are my Draftkings picks for this week’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats vs. Calgary Stampeders matchup.

Draftkings Player Selections

James Butler, RB $9,300

Talented Hamilton running back James Butler was certainly a key contributor to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats offense in 2023. Having stated that, how did Butler perform from a statistical perspective last season? Let’s review James Butler’s relevant key player game data from the 2023 CFL regular season to answer that question.

In the 13 games that running back James Butler played for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the 2023 CFL regular season, Butler accumulated a whopping 1,182 rushing yards, 7 rushing touchdowns, 57 receptions, and 477 receiving yards.

Looking closer at the data just presented, in the 13 games that James Butler played for the Tiger-Cats last season, Butler averaged 16.6 Draftkings points a game.

I also like James Butler’s matchup in this game. Why? Hamilton running back James Butler draws a Calgary Stampeders defense that struggled to defend the running back position in the 2023 regular season. Let me be more specific. Upon the completion of 18 games in the 2023 CFL regular season, the Calgary Stampeders ranked a rather low seventh in total rushing yards allowed (124.8) to the running back position a game. Keep in mind that the CFL has nine teams in the entire league. Clearly, being ranked seventh in any defensive category is not good.

*It should be noted that the Hamilton Tiger-Cats have officially listed running back James Butler as questionable for this week’s game. Keep that in mind as you construct your Draftkings lineups for this one game DFS slate.

For the reasons just mentioned, I am backing Hamilton Tiger-Cats running back James Butler as a flex play for this Draftkings CFL DFS contest.

Steven Dunbar Jr., WR $3,400

Upon the completion of the 2023 CFL season, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats recognized that the team needed to add more depth at the wide receiver position. The team’s desire to add a quality wide receiver resulted in the Hamilton Tiger-Cats signing free agent wide receiver Steven Dunbar Jr.

How well did Steven Dunbar Jr. play last season? Steven Dunbar Jr. was a member of the Edmonton Elk in 2023. In ten games played for the Edmonton Elk last season, Dunbar Jr. accumulated a respectable 38 receptions, 528 receiving yards, and five receiving touchdowns.

In my opinion, Hamilton Tiger-Cats wide receiver Steven Dunbar Jr. presents the best value of any player on this slate at the low Draftkings price of only $3,400.

Additional flex plays I like to perform well this week (Draftkings price noted): Bo Levin Mitchell, QB: Tim White, WR $12,000: Cam Echols Luper $9,000: Jake Maier, QB $10,200: Dedrick Mills, RB $6,500: Tiger-Cats, Defense $5,800: Marken Michel, WR 2,900: Peyton Logan, RB $4,000.
