Seattle Mariners vs. Philadelphia Phillies
August 20, 2025 1:05 pm EDT

Major League Baseball presents Draftkings baseball fans with an interleague matchup featuring the Seattle Mariners and the Philadelphia Phillies. Let’s take a look at this MLB game from a DFS perspective.

Before we dive into the Seattle Mariners vs. Philadelphia Phillies game let’s review the rules for the Draftkings MLB single game showdown contest.

Draftkings Single Game Showdown Contest Rules

You have $50,000 to utilize on five players from either team. However, one of those players will be designated as your team captain. The captain accumulates 1.5 times the standard fantasy points. Additionally, the captain is 1.5 times the standard cost of the flex position.

The remaining four players in your lineup will receive the standard fantasy points. Having stated that, it is highly important for you to identify the correct player for your captain position if you hope to win a large field DFS GPP (guaranteed prize pool) showdown contest.

If you have additional questions regarding the rules for the single game showdown contest, I recommend that you check out the Draftkings website for more details.

*I recommend that all readers review the starting lineups for both teams prior to setting your DFS lineup for this one game slate.

Here are my Draftkings picks for tomorrow afternoon’s Mariners vs. Phillies matchup.

Draftkings MLB DFS Picks

Captain-Jesus Luzardo, Starting Pitcher, Philadelphia Phillies $11,400

Major League Baseball presents the final game of a three-game interleague series featuring the Seattle Mariners and the Philadelphia Phillies.

How are these two teams playing entering tomorrow afternoon’s MLB game? The Philadelphia Phillies arrive at the third game of this three game interleague series with the Seattle Mariners playing good baseball. The Phillies have won four of the team’s last five games played in the 2025 MLB regular season, including a 6-2 win over the Washington Nationals four days ago.

Conversely, the Seattle Mariners are playing subpar baseball entering tomorrow’s interleague game. More specifically, the Mariners have lost six of the team’s last seven games played this season, including a 5-3 loss to the Baltimore Orioles last week.

Now that we have determined how both of these teams are currently playing let’s shift our focus to tomorrow afternoon’s contest. Starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo has been a standout performer for the Philadelphia Phillies starting pitching rotation this season. With that said, how has Luzardo performed from a statistical perspective in 2025? Let’s review the veteran hurler’s relevant game data from the 2025 MLB regular season to answer that question.

Through 25 starts made this season, Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo has amassed a rather impressive 11-6 (win-loss record), a 4.21 ERA (Earned Run Average) and a 1.34 WHIP (Walks and Hits per Inning Pitched). It should also be noted that Jesus Luzardo has tallied a massive 158 strikeouts (13th in MLB) while allowing 48 walks in 139 innings pitched this season.

More recently, in the Philadelphia Phillies dominant 13-3 win over the Baltimore Orioles earlier this month, Phillies starting pitcher Jesus certainly pitched at a high-level. Luzardo pitched six quality innings while scattering five hits and no walks in the Phillies defeat of the Orioles.

In my view, Jesus Luzardo is the most likely player to post the most Draftkings points in this MLB regular season game. Having stated that, I am backing Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo at the captain position for this one game MLB DFS slate.

Flex plays I like to play well in this MLB regular season contest (Draftkings price noted): Luis Castillo, Starting Pitcher (Seattle Mariners) $11,000: Trea Turner, Outfielder (Philadelphia Phillies) $9,400: J.P. Crawford, Shortstop (Seattle Mariners) $5,600.
